Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse – PCU (Progressive Care Unit)

Contract Length

  • 13 weeks

Work Schedule

  • Day shift, 3 twelve-hour shifts per week (7:00 AM – 7:30 PM)
  • Weekdays and some weekends
  • Rotating holidays
  • Required to float within units of equivalent or lower acuity

Unit Description

  • PCU – Lower Acuity Cardiac Unit
  • Cardiac experience preferred
  • Estimated patient ratio: 1 nurse to 3 patients

Requirements/Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Ohio
  • Minimum 2 years of Progressive Care Unit (PCU) experience, including experience within the last year
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association
  • Proficient in IV start
  • Experience with Epic electronic health record system

Background and Compliance Requirements

  • 7-year criminal background check within 90 days of start, including:
    • Social Security trace
    • Counties lived/worked
    • Nationwide search
    • Sex offender registry
    • Motor Vehicle Record (if driving is part of the job)
  • FBI and BCI fingerprinting required within 1 year of start (Ohio-specific code 3701.881)
  • Pending background check attestation required if fingerprint results are pending at start
  • Education accreditation verification: Must be graduate of an accredited nursing program (CCNE, ACEN, or NLN CNEA)
  • Employment application and skills checklist required
  • Two professional references required (at least one from a manager or formal leadership role)

Health and Safety Requirements

  • Physical exam within 1 year of start confirming good health and free of contagious disease
  • Negative TB test (PPD, QGold, or TSPOT) within 1 year or chest x-ray if positive
  • Tdap vaccination (adult dose after age 11/12)
  • MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) vaccination or positive titers
  • Varicella vaccination or positive titer (medical exemptions require documentation)
  • Hepatitis B titer or 3-vaccine series (signed declination acceptable)
  • Seasonal flu vaccination or declination during flu season (10/1 – 3/31)
  • Negative 10-panel drug screen within 3 months of start (includes amphetamines, barbiturates, benzodiazepines, cannabinoids, cocaine, methadone, methaqualone, opiates, PCP, propoxyphene)
  • Annual fit mask test required for inpatient/patient-facing roles starting 7/13/2026 (3M 1860/1870+, Halyard Duckbill masks accepted)

Competency and Training Requirements

  • Medication test/pharmacology competency exam prior to start
  • Unit-specific competency exam
  • Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam required within 1 year of start and updated annually (minimum passing score 76%)
  • Orientation safety manual acknowledgement annually
  • NIH Stroke Certification may be required depending on unit (check with recruiter)

  • Candidates must review and sign dress code and hand hygiene policies
  • Fraud, waste, and abuse training certificate required prior to start and updated annually
  • Confidential fraud, waste, abuse, and compliance reporting form required
  • No prior travel experience explicitly required for this position

This position offers an opportunity to work in a cardiac-focused PCU with a supportive patient ratio and requires strong clinical skills in telemetry and IV therapy, along with experience in EPIC documentation. Compliance with Ohio-specific background and fingerprinting requirements is mandatory.
