MRI Tech - Travel/Contract

Location: Charleston, South Carolina
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Position Summary

  • Perform high-quality MRI examinations under general supervision following established protocols for physician interpretation.
  • Float between two locations: primarily in-house at one site and mobile at another, traveling 1-2 times per week to the mobile site.
  • Work schedule options:
    • Monday to Friday, 5 shifts of 8 hours (12:30 PM – 9:00 PM)
    • Alternatively, 4 shifts of 10 hours (10:30 AM – 9:00 PM) or 3 shifts of 12 hours (8:30 AM – 9:00 PM) may be considered.
  • Weekend requirement: Saturdays 8:00 AM – 4:00 PM on some weeks, adjusting weekday hours accordingly to maintain 40 hours/week.
  • No call requirement.

Required Qualifications

  • MRI Technologist with a minimum of 2 years of experience, including experience within the last year.
  • Certifications:
    • BLS (Basic Life Support)
    • ARRT (MR) or ARMRIT certification required; state license not required.

Compliance & Documentation Requirements

  • Government-issued photo ID (Driver’s License or State ID).
  • Background check within 1 year covering all locations lived/worked in past 7 years.
  • Physical exam within 90 days prior to start, confirming good health and ability to work without restrictions.
  • Fit test for N95 mask (specific models required) within 90 days prior to start, renewed annually.
  • Immunizations and testing:
    • Tdap within 10 years or declination form.
    • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 90 days.
    • Measles, Mumps, Rubella immunity or vaccination; declination accepted for Mumps and Rubella only.
    • Hepatitis B series, titer, or declination.
    • Varicella immunity or vaccination, or documented history of chickenpox, or declination.
  • Drug screening: 10-panel urine drug test within 90 days prior to start.
  • Seasonal flu vaccination or medical/religious exemption required annually (no declinations accepted).
  • COVID vaccination highly preferred; if declined, must complete a vaccination declination form.
  • Additional facility-specific orientation modules and safety acknowledgments required within 5 days of start.
  • Radiation exposure attestation required prior to start.

Work Environment & Other Details

  • Facility type: Outpatient clinic.
  • Charting system: Epic.
  • Dress code: Teal scrub tops and black pants.
  • Parking: No cost.
  • Radius rule: Must live within 60 miles of the facility.
  • Locals may be considered on a case-by-case basis.
  • Hurricane season (June–November) may require assignment to emergency response teams; candidates should consider this before accepting new or extension assignments.
  • Guaranteed hours: Facility may call off 1 shift per 2 weeks.

  • Radiation badge processing may take 5-7 days; candidates cannot start clinical duties without the badge.
