Overview

  • Schedule: Saturday/Sunday plus 1 weekday
  • Call: None
  • Contract length: 13 weeks
  • Float scope: May float within scope to meet facility needs and between like units/sister facilities
  • First-timers accepted: Yes
  • Local candidates: Accepted within 60 miles, case-by-case
  • Guaranteed hours: Facility may call off 1 shift per 2 weeks

Unit / Setting

  • Main Operating Room in a level-one academic trauma center
  • 21 OR suites
  • Covers Trauma, Transplant, Ortho, Neuro, ENT, GU-GYN, and Robotics cases
  • Busy, nurse-driven, Magnet-designated department

Required Qualifications

  • Certified Surgical Technologist with 2 years of experience
  • Certified Surgical Technologist experience within the last year
  • NBSTSA certification
  • BLS issued by the American Heart Association or American Red Cross
  • Experience working with Level 1 Trauma patients
  • South Carolina license verification
  • Radiation badge required; must be provided by agency

Preferred

  • Neuro cases, including spines/crani
  • ENT flaps
  • Robotics cases, including Davinci Xi

Common Cases

  • Ortho: total joints, spine, trauma
  • Neuro: crani, spine
  • ENT: flaps
  • Robotics
  • Transplants/Procurements
  • Trauma/Burns
  • GU/GYN

Additional Notes

  • Scrub color provided
  • Charting system: EPIC
  • Parking requires a permit and a $20 registration fee for a hang tag
  • Hurricane season runs June through November, and staff may be assigned to emergency response teams during that time

Pros

Everyone was so helpful and nice when i started. beautiful hospital grounds with ample outdoor areas to hang out during breaks/lunch.Amazing cafeteria and always had at least 5 food trucks outside the hospital for linch. Friendly staff including doctors and great patients. patient to staff ratio was awesome and always had a great team mentality of helping everyone out when needed.

Cons

The only con of the area was cost of living especially rent. I rented downtown so I could walk to work but coworkers who lived off of the main downtown area on other islands complained of heavy traffic.
