Job Opportunity: Labor and Delivery Nurse (Travel/Contract)

Location: Davis, California
Contract Length: 16 weeks
Shift: Day shift, 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7:00 AM – 7:30 PM)
Hours per Week: 36


Unit Overview

  • Approximately 1,450 births per year
  • Large midwifery practice with water labor and water births
  • Use of birth slings, intermittent fetal monitoring, epidurals, and circulating during Cesarean sections
  • Baby Friendly designation with couplet care and level 1 nursery (stabilize and/or transfer)
  • Supports physiologic birth with low Cesarean section and epidural rates
  • Block scheduling available if staffing allows

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in California
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
  • Minimum 2 years of Labor and Delivery nursing experience, with at least some experience within the last year
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
  • Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification
  • Electronic Fetal Monitoring (EFM) certification

Background and Compliance Requirements

  • 7-year background check including SSN trace with all aliases, county searches, nationwide sex offender search, education verification, and FACIS Level 3 screening (initial and monthly updates)
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required and updated annually
  • Drug screening: Negative 9-panel drug screen within 6 months (excluding marijuana/cannabinoids per California law)
  • Employment application with full 7 years of work history, no gaps, and verification of up to 7 years of employment
  • Professional references: 2 for clinical positions within 3 years of hire
  • Various state and federal compliance screenings as applicable

Health and Immunization Requirements

  • Physical exam within 1 year of start, cleared for work
  • Fit mask test within 1 year, renewed annually (specific mask types required)
  • Immunizations and/or titers required:
    • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (within 10 years)
    • Negative TB test (QGold or TSPOT within 90 days or 2-step PPD) with annual renewal
    • Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella: Positive IGG titer or vaccination series with boosters as needed
    • Hepatitis B: Positive titer, completed series, or signed declination
    • Varicella: Positive IGG titer or vaccination series with boosters as needed
    • Seasonal flu vaccination or signed declination during flu season (Nov 1 – Apr 30)
  • Drug testing negative within 6 months of start (9-panel, excluding marijuana)

Additional Certifications and Competencies

  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) may be required depending on position
  • Other certifications such as PALS, CCRN, TNCC, CPI, and NIH Stroke Certification may be required based on role specifics (verify with recruiter)
  • Medication and pharmacology competency exams as applicable
  • Unit-specific skills checklist required and renewed annually

Documentation and Orientation

  • Must review and sign facility-specific documents including job description, standards of business conduct, code of conduct, vendor training, overpayment refund policy, and regulatory orientation prior to start
  • TB screening questionnaire required within 90 days of start and renewed annually
  • Epic Questionnaire required for RNs starting 11/3/2025 and onward

Work Environment and Expectations

  • Must be willing to work across all Labor and Delivery areas including circulating in Cesarean sections, recovery, and postpartum
  • Supportive of physiologic birth practices and Baby Friendly initiatives
  • Block scheduling available based on staffing needs

  • Prior travel experience is not explicitly required for this position
