Location: Lafayette, Louisiana
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 8 weeks


Job Overview

  • ICU position with an average daily census of 44 patients.
  • Nurse-to-patient ratio: 1:2.
  • Weekend coverage every other weekend.
  • Upon starting, you may be assigned to an "Emergency Team" with expectations to stay onsite during emergency events or be part of relief teams. Candidates uncomfortable with this should not apply.

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Louisiana.
  • Minimum 2 years of ICU (Intensive Care Unit) nursing experience, including ICU experience within the last year.
  • Minimum 2 years of total travel nursing experience.
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) certification issued by the American Heart Association.
  • BLS (Basic Life Support) certification.
  • NIHSS (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale) certification.

Additional Requirements

  • Current/valid Driver’s License or government photo ID (color copy required).
  • Background checks including 7-year criminal background, EPLS/GSA/SAM, HHS/OIG, sex offender search, and education verification.
  • Physical exam within 12 months indicating good health.
  • Negative 10-panel drug screen within 60 days of start (instant screenings not accepted).
  • Immunizations and health documentation:
    • TB test (PPD, Qgold, or Tspot) within 12 months.
    • Measles, Mumps, Rubella (MMR) immunity or vaccination.
    • Hepatitis B immunity or vaccination series.
    • Varicella immunity or vaccination.
    • Tdap vaccination (if applicable).
    • Seasonal flu vaccination or approved exemption during flu season (Oct 1 - Apr 30).
  • Competency exam specific to specialty, completed within 1 year prior to start, minimum 80%.
  • Skills checklist updated annually.
  • Photo for badge: full color, passport-style, taken within last 6 months.

Important Notes

  • Candidates must be comfortable with emergency event assignments as directed by unit management.
  • CPI (Crisis Prevention Institute) certification is not required for ICU specialty.
  • Fit mask testing (N95) must be current within one year of start; onsite fit testing available if needed.
  • Employment application and resume required, including 7 years of employment history and explanations for any gaps.
