Travel Registered Nurse - Medical Surgical

Location: Utica, New York
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Job Description

• Provide care on Medical Surgical unit with occasional stroke patients.
• Experience with stroke patients and occasional Peritoneal Dialysis patients required.
• Med/Surg staffing ratios: 1:5 during days (6 days per week), 1:6-7 during nights.
• Return to Office (RTO) policy: Only one holiday off; total time off 7 days or less.
• Local candidates within 75 miles radius may be considered.

Required Qualifications

• Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in New York.
• Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).
• Minimum 2 years of experience in Medical Surgical nursing specialty, with experience within the last year.
• Experience caring for stroke patients.
• Experience caring for Peritoneal Dialysis patients.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association or American Red Cross.
• NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification.
• Harassment Prevention Training Certificate.
• Experience with EPIC electronic health record system.

Certifications & Training

• ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) strongly preferred (AHA certification preferred).
• BLS (Basic Life Support) required (AHA certification preferred).
• NIH Stroke Certification (valid for 2 years).
• Harassment Prevention Training Certificate (New York state requirement).
• Medication/Pharmacology Competency Exam (minimum 80% passing score).
• Dysrhythmia/EKG Competency Exam (required for ICU, PCU, ER, and certain Med/Surg units; expires every 3 years).
• Color Blind Testing (required prior to start).

Health & Compliance Requirements

• Physical exam within 1 year of start date.
• Fit mask test within 1 year of start and updated annually (specific mask types required).
• Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year of start (specific documentation required).
• Immunizations or proof of immunity for:

  • Rubeola (Measles)
  • Mumps
  • Rubella
  • Hepatitis B (titer, declination, or vaccine series)
  • Varicella (chickenpox)
• 9 Panel Drug Screen within 1 year of start.
• Seasonal flu vaccination or declination during flu season (September 1 - March 31).
• Pneumonia vaccination or declination required.

Additional Requirements

• Background checks including 7-year work/school history, sex offender registry, and federal exclusions (updated annually).
• Education verification and professional references (2 for travel/allied/per diem acute care; 1 for per diem non-acute care).
• Completion of facility-specific online learning modules prior to first shift.
• Submission of appropriate photo for badge.
• Signing of facility-specific job description and welcome packet acknowledgements.
