Job Opportunity: Laboratory Specialist (Travel/Contract)

Location: Baltimore, Maryland
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Details

  • Schedule: 5 days a week, 8-hour evening shifts (Sunday through Saturday)
  • Minimum Experience Required: 2 years in Laboratory specialty (will consider first-time travelers)
  • Certifications Required:
    • ASCP (required)
    • BLS and ASCP-MLS (preferred)

Required Credentials & Compliance

  • I9 or Attestation
  • Government Issued Photo ID
  • E-Verify or Attestation
  • Background Check: 7-year criminal history within 30 days of start, updated annually
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks within 30 days of start
  • Education Verification for highest level of education
  • Maryland State Exclusions List check within 30 days of start
  • Physical Exam within 1 year of start (including Latex Screen)
  • Fit Mask Test within 1 year of start (not required for Sterile Processing Techs and Inpatient Pharmacy Techs)
  • Immunizations and Titers:
    • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (required for units working with children)
    • Negative TB test or Chest X-Ray (updated annually)
    • Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, Hepatitis B (positive titer or vaccination/declination as applicable)
  • Drug Testing: Negative 9 Panel Drug Screen within 30 days prior to start (instant tests not accepted)
  • Flu Vaccine or Medical/Religious Exemption required during flu season (10/6-3/31)
  • COVID vaccine not required for this location, but documentation or declination collected for tracking

Competency & Certification Exams

  • Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam (as applicable)
  • Color Blind Testing (required for all candidates)
  • Competency Exam (as applicable by profession/specialty)
  • Age Specific Competency Exam (required for all, including CNAs)
  • Dysrhythmia/EKG Competency Exam (required for most units except certain specialties)

Facility Specific Requirements

  • Uniform: Navy blue scrubs; pink for trauma; pediatric department allows child-friendly tops with navy blue pants; white long/short sleeve undershirts; business casual for GOR or case management (no jeans, open-toe shoes, sleeveless tops, or shorts)
  • Passport-style photo with solid white/beige background for badge
  • Dress Code review prior to start
  • Confidentiality Agreement signed prior to start
  • Security ID Application completed within 72 hours of signing contract
  • Job Description acknowledgment required prior to start

References & Work History

  • Two supervisory references within 1 year of start (charge RNs, supervisors, or managers)
  • Employment application/resume completed within 30 days of start
  • Verification of previous 5 years of employment history (attestation accepted if necessary)

  • Prior travel experience is not required for this position.
  • Contract length is 13 weeks.
  • This is a travel/contract position in a hospital setting requiring compliance with extensive credentialing and health documentation.
