Job Summary

The Clinical Nurse (RN) provides safe, competent, quality care to a designated group of patients and their families, applying nursing theory, research, and evidence-based practice within the Relationship Centered Care model.

Key Responsibilities

Patient Care

• Deliver patient care using nursing process based on theory, research, and organizational standards.
• Assess and evaluate patient needs, applying critical thinking in care management.
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary healthcare team to develop, implement, and evaluate care plans.
• Prioritize patient care activities including teaching, rounding, coaching, and discharge planning.
• Educate patients and caregivers on care plans, health promotion, and disease prevention.
• Communicate professionally with patients, families, and healthcare team members.
• Manage assignments within Modified Primary Nursing care delivery model.

Patient Experience

• Role model Mount Sinai Relationship Centered Care practices (e.g., Admission Welcome, Bedside Shift Report, Purposeful Hourly Rounding).
• Respect patient values, preferences, cultural diversity, and expressed needs.
• Establish therapeutic relationships with patients and families.
• Use evidence-based practices to understand patient perceptions of care.
• Address patient/family concerns and escalate as needed.
• Demonstrate caring, respect, compassion, empathy, and active listening.

Quality and Safety

• Practice safe, patient-centered care and identify barriers or opportunities for improvement.
• Demonstrate clinical skills essential to quality and safety.
• Participate in quality improvement projects, evidence-based practice activities, and nursing research.
• Follow institutional protocols to escalate safety hazards or gaps.
• Document nursing practice accurately to support quality and performance improvement.

Operations

• Perform charge nurse duties as assigned.
• Coordinate with leadership to ensure adequate supplies and staffing.
• Escalate resource deficits appropriately.
• Use patient-focused, cost-effective approaches to care and resource management.
• Facilitate patient throughput during shifts.
• Maintain accurate documentation in compliance with hospital and regulatory standards.

Qualifications & Skills

• Current New York State RN License
• BLS Certification
• Minimum 2 years of RN experience, including 2 years on a Medical Unit
• Travel experience preferred for travel positions (not required for Per Diem)
• EPIC electronic health record experience highly preferred

Unit Information

• Average Unit Census: 22 patients
• Unit Beds: 29
• Staffing Ratio: 1 RN to 6 patients
• Schedule: 3 shifts of 12 hours each, weekends required
