Job Opportunity: Medical Lab Technician (MLT) - Travel/Contract

Location: North Providence, Rhode Island
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Job Details

• Shift: 4x10 hour nights (2100-0700), 7 days on, 7 days off (block scheduling)
• Weekend Coverage: Every other weekend
• Patient Age Groups: Neonates, Infants, Pediatrics, Adolescents, Adults, Geriatrics
• Preferred Patient Diagnoses: Neonates, Infants, Pediatrics
• Unit: Generalist laboratory work including hematology, chemistry, and blood banking (tube method)
• Special Procedures/Skills:

  • Comfortable with laboratory instruments in hematology, chemistry, and blood banking
  • Knowledge of Beckman chemistry automation is a plus

Required Qualifications

• Specialty: Laboratory - Medical Lab Technician (MLT)
• Years of Experience: Minimum 3 years in clinical laboratory setting
• Prior Travel Experience: Not accepted for first-time travelers (prior travel experience required)
• Community Hospital Experience: Required
• Certifications:

  • ASCP-MLS OR ASCP-MLT certification required
• Licensure: Must hold valid MLT license as applicable for Rhode Island
• Required Skills:

  • Experience in commercial or reference laboratories and hospital clinical laboratories

Additional Requirements

• Background Checks: Must be current and include SSN trace, county searches, nationwide sex offender check, and fingerprinting as required by Rhode Island regulations
• Health Requirements:

  • Physical exam within 1 year of start
  • Tdap vaccine within 10 years
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 12 months
  • MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) vaccination or positive titer
  • Hepatitis B vaccination series, titer, or declination
  • Varicella vaccination, positive titer, or provider documentation of disease
  • Seasonal flu vaccine or approved declination during flu season (Oct 1 - Mar 31)
  • Drug screening (9 panel) after position acceptance
  • Respiratory safety clearance required annually
• Competency Exams:

  • Medication/Pharmacology competency as applicable
  • Color Blind Testing (100% passing score required for lab candidates)
  • General competency exams with minimum passing score of 80% or higher as required
• Documentation:

  • Government-issued photo ID
  • Emergency contact form
  • Confidentiality agreement and technology access agreement prior to start
  • Orientation packet completion prior to start
• References:

  • 2 professional references from travel, allied, or per diem acute care within 3 years
