Job Summary
Seeking a Registered Nurse with pediatric acute care and chemotherapy/oncology experience to work a 7:00 AM to 7:30 PM shift on a pediatric unit. The role involves caring for general pediatrics, hematology/oncology, orthopedic, and surgical patients ranging from neonates to adolescents.
Schedule & Requirements
- Shift Hours: 7:00 AM – 7:30 PM
- Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
- Holiday Requirement: Must work 1 of 2 or 2 of 3 holidays, per unit needs
- Floating: Must float within skillset without exception
- Patient Ratio: 1:5
- Charting System: EPIC experience required
- Accepts first-time travelers and local candidates
Required Experience
- Minimum 1.5 years of acute care pediatric nursing experience
- Chemotherapy/Oncology experience required
Required Licenses & Certifications
- Active New Jersey RN license or Compact RN license at time of submission
- BLS (Basic Life Support)
- PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)
- Chemotherapy certification issued by the Association of Pediatric Hematology/Oncology Nurses (APHON)
- IV Certification (required for all RNs except OR specialties)
- Additional certifications may be required based on unit assignment (e.g., ACLS, NRP)
Clinical Skills & Competencies
- Pediatric MedSurg and Pediatric Oncology care
- Vascular Access & Infusion: IV therapy, phlebotomy, starting/maintaining IVs, peripheral and central line care, port management, blood and blood product administration, TPN/Lipids
- Oncology & Medications: Chemotherapy administration, anti-seizure medications, pediatric dosage calculations, insulin administration
- GI/Nutrition: Breastfeeding support, handling breast milk, feeding methods (bottle, breast, gavage)
- Neuro/Respiratory/Orthopedic: Seizure disorders, oxygen delivery systems, fracture care
- Urinary catheter insertion and management, renal failure care, infection prevention, isolation precautions/PPE, wound assessment and care
Required Documentation & Compliance
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within required timeframes
- Physical exam within the past 12 months, cleared to perform essential job functions and free of communicable disease
- Drug screen within 30 days of start
- Respiratory medical clearance and on-site fit testing mandatory
- Influenza vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required annually
- Background checks including criminal, EPLS/GSA/SAM, HHS/OIG, and state-specific exclusions within 30 days of start
- Employment application or resume with 7 years of work history
- References: 2 within last 2 years, including at least one managerial reference
- Competency exams including medication/pharmacology, dysrhythmia/EKG, IV therapy/infusion, and pass/fail testing for EKG/medications as applicable
- Annual education sign-off and facility-specific orientation requirements
Additional Notes
- Candidates must be prepared to work in a multidisciplinary, child-focused environment with complex medical and surgical pediatric patients.

- Floating assignments depend on census, patient acuity, and staffing needs.
- Prior travel experience is not required; first-time travelers are accepted.

This is a travel contract opportunity for a Pediatric Registered Nurse with acute care and chemotherapy/oncology experience. Staff and management are very friendly. The ratios are pretty good. Sometimes it gets very busy and sometimes transport is put in by someone else before you even have the patient ready to go. They are very flexible with scheduling and their weekend requirements are reasonable.
