Travel Registered Nurse – Medical Surgical

Location: Florence, South Carolina
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Position Details

• Specialty: Medical Surgical Registered Nurse (MedSurg RN)
• Shift: Day shift, 4 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7:00 AM – 7:30 PM)
• Patient Ratios: Typically 1:6; may flex to 1:7 during unplanned absences
• Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
• On-call Requirement: Yes, as needed for low census
• Floating: Required to float within scope to like units or sister facilities

Required Qualifications

• Valid RN license in South Carolina
• Med Surg / Telemetry experience within the last year (minimum 1 year)
• Basic Life Support (BLS) issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross, current beyond 30 days from start
• Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) / Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
• Rapid Response experience
• Experience with Epic Electronic Health Record system

Preferred Qualifications

• Certifications:

  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) – AHA or ARC only
  • NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification

• Guaranteed Hours: Facility may call off 1 shift every 2 weeks
• Locals: Not accepted for this assignment
• Local Radius: 60 miles
• Block Scheduling: May be requested but not guaranteed

Health & Safety Requirements

• Physical Exam: Initial and annual updates required, attesting ability to meet physical demands
• Immunizations & Titers:

  • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap within 10 years or declination form
  • Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella: Positive titer or 2 vaccines; boosters if low titer
  • Hepatitis B: Titer, vaccine series, or declination; boosters allowed if low/non-reactive titer
  • Varicella: Positive titer or 2 vaccines; boosters if low titer
• Tuberculosis Screening: Negative 2-step PPD or Quantiferon Gold within 90 days of start; chest x-ray if positive
• Drug Testing: 10-panel drug screen within 90 days of start; no instant tests
• Respirator Clearance: Annual medical clearance required for respirator use via RespSafety questionnaire
• COVID-19: Vaccines not required but highly preferred; vaccination records must be uploaded or declination form completed
• Seasonal Flu Vaccine: Required during flu season (Aug 1 – Mar 31); medical/religious exemptions accepted, declinations not accepted

Background & Verification Requirements

• Background Check: Annual, including 7 years of residence/work history, sex offender registry, national criminal, FACIS 3, and international searches
• Employment Verification: Last 3 clinical employers verified (may be waived with facility approval)
• References: Proof of 2 clinical references or hospital evaluations
• Performance Evaluation: Must be dated within 12 months of start
• Licensure Verification: Primary source verification required; NURSYS verification for RN license
• Education Verification: Diploma or transcripts preferred but not required for clearance
• Drug Screen and Immunization documentation must be current and uploaded as required

Facility-Specific Documentation & Compliance

• Photo for Badge: Passport-style, frontal view, solid light background
• Signed Agreements: Assignment acknowledgment, confidentiality agreements, code of conduct, HR policy manual, systems user agreement, user access request, HIPAA confidentiality agreement
• Orientation: Completion of facility-specific orientation modules prior to start (approx. 4 hours)
• COVID & Flu Vaccination Documentation: Must be uploaded into facility system prior to start
• Radiation Badge: Not required for MedSurg RN
