Float Pool (MS Tele)

Location: Uniontown, Pennsylvania

Role Summary

Float Pool RNs needed to float between MedSurg/Tele and Stepdown. The assignment also includes floating to MS units, Step-down, IRU (Rehab), and ED holding.

Required Qualifications

• RN license
• BLS
• ACLS
• NIHSS
• Must be able to read and interpret strips
• Must be able to titrate Cardizem, Nitro, Dopamine, Dobutamine, and Heparin
• Must be comfortable caring for both “clean” and “dirty” patients at the same time

Unit Details

• MedSurg units: 1W MedSurg and 2E MedSurg
• 1W MedSurg: 28 beds, all private
• 2E MedSurg: 29 beds, all private
• 3W Stepdown: 28 private beds
• 2E MedSurg includes 2N and 2S as one large unit
• 1W MedSurg patient mix: mainly postsurgical and ortho
• 2E MedSurg patient mix: MedSurg, pneumonia, dialysis, palliative care, hospice, end of life, and low-volume inpatient chemo
• 3W Stepdown patient mix: heavy cardiac, dysrhythmias, CVAs, and patients downgraded from ICU

Schedule

• Nights
• 12-hour shifts
• 36 hours per week
• MedSurg RN shifts: 7a-7:30p and 7p-7:30a
• Stepdown RN shifts: 7a-7:30p and 7p-7:30a
• Weekend requirement: every other weekend
• Holidays: work into the perm staff holiday rotation
• Stepdown: every other holiday

Floating

• MedSurg RNs float only to other MedSurg units
• Stepdown RNs may float to ICU as helping hands

Additional Notes

• MedSurg orientation: 1 shift with a preceptor
• Stepdown orientation: 2 shifts with a preceptor
• MedSurg uses remote tele without on-unit monitors
• Stepdown has tele monitors
• MedSurg vents managed per RT: BiPAP, CPAP, High Flow
• Stepdown vents: BiPAP, CPAP, High Flow
• MedSurg scrub color: navy blue
• Stepdown scrub color: navy blue
