Job Opportunity: Med/Tele/PCU Registered Nurse (RN)
Location: Bismarck, North Dakota
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Unit Overview
- Unit Type: Med/Telemetry/Progressive Care Unit (PCU)
- Number of Beds: 32
- Nurse-to-Patient Ratios:
- Day shifts: 1:4-5
- Night shifts: occasional 1:5-6
- PCU overflow: 1:3
- Patient Population: Adults and geriatrics with cardiac conditions (cardiac caths, EP studies, pacers), alcohol-related cases, COVID-19 (including BiPAP patients), general surgical patients with cardiac history, pneumonia, acute on chronic conditions, influenza, sepsis
Required Skills and Experience
- Must have PCU experience and be able to read and interpret cardiac strips independently
- Telemetry/cardiac nursing experience required
- Epic electronic health record experience preferred but not mandatory
- First-time travel nurses are acceptable
- RN must be able to titrate drips including Amiodarone, Cardizem, Heparin, Nitro, Nipride, Lasix, and low dose Dopamine (no Levophed)
Certifications and Licenses
- BLS (Basic Life Support) required
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support) required
- Registered Nurse (RN) license valid in North Dakota
Shift and Scheduling Details
- Shifts: 7:00 AM - 7:00 PM and 7:00 PM - 7:00 AM
- Shift rotation: 7-7 rotation will not occur more than once weekly; blocked schedules may be considered
- Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
- Holiday Requirement: Every other holiday
- Orientation: 2 shifts (12 hours each) on Friday and Saturday of the first week; independent by Sunday
- Floating: Required to float to PCU, Medical-Surgical, and some ER hold/boarding areas as needed
Additional Unit Information
- Charge nurse present on each shift, occasionally takes a light patient load (2-3 patients)
- Nurse aides/patient care technicians available with a goal ratio of 1:10
- Respiratory therapy equipment present (BiPAP, trachs, Airvo); RNs troubleshoot but do not manage vents
- Telemetry/monitor techs available at nurses’ station and patient rooms
- Dress code: Any color scrubs allowed
- No call or standby requirements
Experience Requirements
- Specialty Experience: PCU/Telemetry nursing experience required (minimum 1 year recommended based on specialty demands)
- Prior travel experience: Not required
Notes
- Candidates must be outside a 50-mile radius of the facility and cannot be currently employed full-time, part-time, or PRN with any related healthcare system facilities
- Return to Office (RTO) required within 7 days of contract start; no additional RTO extensions allowed
This position is ideal for experienced Med/Tele/PCU RNs comfortable with cardiac monitoring, drip titration, and working in a fast-paced progressive care environment.
