Travel Nurse Opportunity: Med Surg (Inpatient Services) - Wisconsin

Shift & Scheduling

• Night shifts
• No self-scheduling; attempts to maintain block schedules
• Weekend requirement: Every 3rd weekend, occasionally every other weekend
• Holiday requirement: Every 3rd holiday
• No call or standby requirement for travelers

Unit Details

• 18 beds
• Nurse-to-patient ratios: typically 1:4, sometimes 1:5, rarely 1:6
• Floating: May float to Emergency Department as 2nd RN or assist, not expected to take full assignment
• Scrub color: Any professional color

Certifications Required

• BLS
• ACLS

Experience

• Positive attitude required
• No explicit years of specialty experience stated (default to positive attitude and certifications)

Clinical Information

• Common diagnoses: Pneumonia, CHF, COPD, cellulitis, COVID-19, general surgical cases (appendectomies overnight), swing bed patients, weakness
• RNs occasionally titrate drips (Heparin, Cardizem); may initiate levophed or dopamine prior to transfer
• Respiratory equipment: CPAP, BiPAP, high flow, self-rescue
• Tele/monitor techs: Not present; RN reads monitors
• Nurse aides available during day and evening shifts to assist with ADLs, vital signs, blood sugars, EKGs

Orientation

• 12-hour department-specific orientation: 4 hours on floor, 8 hours with education RN
• Buddy system on first day off

• Radius rule: Candidates must live outside a 50-mile radius of the facility to qualify
