Medical Oncology Registered Nurse (RN) - Contract
Location: Hilo, Hawaii
Employment Type: Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Day Shift, Monday - Friday, 7:30 AM - 4:00 PM
Job Description
- Independently administer chemotherapy, immunotherapy, targeted therapy, and injections (chemo, hormonal, and non-chemo/hormonal) per provider orders.
- Access and care for port-a-caths, PICCs, and Hickman catheters, including venipuncture, dressing changes, and lab draws via these devices.
- Provide appropriate clinical care and maintain accurate, concise, and complete patient records regarding condition, treatment, medications, and responses.
- Monitor and document all intravenous therapies and patient responses.
- Notify Medical Oncologist or Nurse Practitioner of unusual occurrences and initiate emergency actions as needed.
- Educate patients, families, and caregivers on medications, treatments, expected responses, side effects, disease process, nutrition, and activity adjustments.
- Verify informed consent prior to chemotherapy administration.
- Demonstrate knowledge of proper handling, administration, and disposal of hazardous drugs, including proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Maintain a safe environment and comply with all policies and procedures.
- Must be proficient in Epic EMR.
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Hawaii
- Minimum of 3 years of Hematology/Oncology nursing experience
- Hematology/Oncology nursing experience within the last year
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- Experience with Epic electronic medical records system
Additional Information
- Must arrive the Thursday before the start date to attend an employee health appointment on Friday.
- Bed size: 18 semi-private bays.
