Registered Nurse - Endoscopy Center

Location: Urbana, Illinois

Job Summary

The Registered Nurse (RN) provides professional nursing care to patients undergoing endoscopy procedures, including preparation, intra-procedure, and recovery phases for routine GI procedures such as colonoscopy and upper endoscopy. The RN delivers moderate sedation under physician direction and collaborates with unit staff to care for outpatient populations, delegating tasks to unlicensed personnel as appropriate.


Key Responsibilities

  • Perform all duties specific to the endoscopy unit scope of service.
  • Implement nursing procedures and theories relevant to endoscopy care.
  • Maintain accurate, up-to-date documentation of nursing care for healthcare team use.
  • Complete initial patient assessments and develop individualized plans of care based on patient and family needs.
  • Implement and modify plans of care through continuous evaluation.
  • Ensure patient and employee safety by identifying and addressing hazards and incidents.
  • Communicate effectively with colleagues and provide constructive feedback to support professional development.
  • Prepare patients for procedures, including assessment, health history review, IV insertion, and patient education.
  • Monitor and sedate patients during procedures.
  • Provide care during phase 1 and phase 2 recovery.
  • Assist anesthesia providers during cases requiring anesthesia involvement.

Required Qualifications

  • Valid RN license in Illinois
  • Minimum 1 year of endoscopy experience within the last year
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
  • BLS (Basic Life Support) certification issued by the American Heart Association
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support) certification issued by the American Heart Association
