Registered Nurse - Radiation Oncology (Contract)

Location: New York, NY
Shift: 8:00 AM – 4:00 PM
Schedule: 5 days a week, 8-hour shifts


Job Summary

Provide safe, competent, quality nursing care to patients in a Radiation Oncology outpatient setting, applying nursing theory, research, and evidence-based practice. Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to develop and implement patient care plans, prioritize patient needs, and educate patients and caregivers.


Essential Responsibilities

Patient Care

  • Deliver nursing care based on Relationship Centered Care and nursing process.
  • Assess and evaluate patient needs using critical thinking.
  • Integrate assessment and intervention skills in care delivery.
  • Collaborate with healthcare team on care plans.
  • Prioritize patient care including teaching, rounding, coaching, and discharge planning.
  • Educate patients and caregivers on care plans, health promotion, and disease prevention.
  • Communicate professionally with patients, families, and care team members.
  • Manage assignments within Modified Primary Nursing care delivery model.

Patient Experience

  • Facilitate patient-centered care activities such as Admission Welcome, Bedside Shift Report, Purposeful Hourly Rounding, and Discharge Wrap Up.
  • Respect patient values, preferences, cultural diversity, and expressed needs.
  • Establish therapeutic relationships with patients and families.
  • Use evidence-based practices to understand patient perceptions of care.
  • Initiate service recovery and escalate concerns as needed.
  • Demonstrate caring, respect, compassion, empathy, and active listening.

Quality and Safety

  • Practice safe, efficient, patient-centered care and escalate barriers or risks.
  • Demonstrate clinical skills essential to quality and safety.
  • Implement process improvement and participate in peer and institutional reviews.
  • Collaborate on quality improvement projects and nursing research.
  • Follow high reliability principles to avoid high-risk behaviors.
  • Report safety hazards following institutional protocols.
  • Document nursing practice accurately to support quality initiatives.

Operations

  • Perform charge nurse duties as assigned.
  • Coordinate supply and inventory management with nursing leadership.
  • Escalate material or staffing shortages appropriately.
  • Use patient-focused, cost-effective approaches to resource utilization.
  • Facilitate patient throughput during shifts.
  • Maintain accurate documentation in compliance with regulatory and legal standards.

Professional Development

  • Support clinical colleagues, patients, families, and healthcare team members.
  • Advance clinical competence from novice to expert.
  • Project a professional image demonstrating caring and empathy.
  • Apply ethical principles in decision-making.
  • Promote lifelong learning, inquiry, and innovation.
  • Acquire knowledge relevant to role, patient population, and specialty.
  • Participate in shared decision-making through specialty councils and committees.

Required Qualifications

  • Current New York State Registered Nurse (RN) license.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • Minimum 2 years of RN experience.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in medical-surgical or ambulatory care preferred.
  • Must have Radiation Oncology experience in an outpatient setting.
  • EPIC electronic health record experience highly preferred.

Contract Length

  • Approximately 13 weeks (89 days).

  • Prior travel experience is not required for this position.
  • This is a contract staffing role sourced through a supplier.
