Registered Nurse (RN) - Float Position

Location: Fort Wayne, Indiana
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Job Summary

• Float RN position covering general medical and surgical units.
• Patient population includes chronic illnesses (COPD, Diabetes, CHF, ESRD), GI issues (pancreatitis, bleeding, gastroparesis, IBD), infections (pneumonia, cellulitis, sepsis, UTI, C. diff), neurological conditions (stroke, dementia, TBI), and mental health disorders (depression, anxiety, substance abuse).
• Patients may undergo procedures such as colonoscopies, thoracentesis, paracentesis, bronchoscopy, and minor surgeries (lap chole, I&D, biopsies, amputation).

Work Schedule

• Night shift: 7pm to 7am
• 12-hour shifts
• 36 hours per week
• Approximately 3 weekend shifts every 4 weeks

Responsibilities

• Provide general medical-surgical nursing care including assessments, care planning, and inter-professional communication.
• Utilize electronic health records (Epic) and equipment such as IV pumps, wound vacs, feeding pumps/tubes, chest tubes, telemetry monitors, pyxis machines, Accucheck blood glucose monitors, Hospira IV pumps, and SCDs for VTE prevention.
• Manage IV therapy, heparin and insulin drips, and other nursing interventions.
• Float to other medical units as needed (no non-medical units).
• Patient ratios typically 1:5-6.

Required Qualifications

• Indiana RN license or compact RN license (effective 7/1/20).
• BLS certification through the American Heart Association.
• Minimum 1.5 years of experience in Level 1, Level 2, or tertiary care settings.
• At least 1 year of MedSurg experience at a large hospital (600+ beds).

Orientation & Training

• Jump Start orientation program: 1 day general hospital orientation plus ~5 days nursing orientation including Epic training.
• 8 hours of non-billable orientation (not applicable if returning within 12 months).

Additional Information

• Dress code: Caribbean Blue scrubs.
• Call-off policy: Client may cancel up to 24 hours before the start of the assignment.
• Local clinicians (within 50 miles) are eligible for a rate adjustment.
• Candidates should disclose any required time off during the assignment.

This position is ideal for experienced MedSurg RNs comfortable with floating and working night shifts in a large hospital setting.
