Registered Nurse – Stepdown Cardiac

Location: Marquette, Michigan
Employment Type: Travel
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Weekly Hours: 36 hours
Shift: Not specified
Weekend Hours: Every other weekend
Call Requirements: No scheduled call; may be put on call if unit census drops


Unit & Patient Population

  • 24-bed Level 2 ICU with Open Heart program, Cath Lab, Neuro Surgery, Level II Trauma center, and CRRT programs
  • Patient ratio: 1:3 for Intermediate Care Unit (IMCU)
  • Common diagnoses/treatments include post-open heart surgery, heart failure, respiratory failure, trauma, surgical ICU care, post-stroke with lytics, post-craniotomy, and septic shock
  • Equipment used: Baxter IV pumps, Omnicell, PrismaFlex CRRT, Impella, IABP, EVDs, bolt monitoring, ventilators, BiPAP, high flow oxygen
  • Electronic Health Record system: Cerner

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Michigan
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
  • Minimum 2 years of Cardiac Stepdown nursing experience, including experience within the last year
  • Progressive Care Unit (PCU) experience
  • Certifications: Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS), and NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS)

Preferred Experience & Skills

  • Experience in CVICU, Neuro ICU, organ donation, and pediatric diabetic ketoacidosis (DKA) care
  • Positive team player personality fit

Additional Information

  • Orientation occurs bi-weekly
  • Dress code: Scrubs in galaxy, royal, or navy blue colors only
  • Unacceptable attire includes hoodies and open-toed shoes
  • Facility is a 225-bed specialty care hospital with multiple specialty centers including Heart & Vascular, Cancer, Brain & Spine, Rehab, Behavioral Health, Digestive Health, Bariatric Medicine & Weight Management, Women’s Health, and Pediatrics
  • Located in the central region of Michigan’s Upper Peninsula, the largest community in the area and home to Northern Michigan University

Note: Candidate must be located 60 miles or more from the facility to qualify as a travel nurse.
