Unit Information

• Number of Beds: 60
• Number of Staff: 50
• Floor: 4th and 5th Floors
• Patient Ratios:

  • 4th Floor Med Surg Specialty: 5:1
  • 5th Floor Med Surg: 6:1
• Equipment Used: Remote telemetry, capnography, Alaris IV pumps, glucometers, dynamaps
• EMR System: Alterra (Allscripts)

Shift and Staffing

• Day Shift: 1 Charge nurse per floor, RNs, LVNs, PCTs, unit secretary (when grid allows)
• Night Shift: 1 Charge nurse per floor, RNs, LVNs, PCTs
• Weekend shifts are required; no on-call duties

Required Skills

• Telemetry experience (mandatory)
• Medical-Surgical experience (mandatory)

Preferred Skills

• Cardiac recognition
• IV starts
• Time management

Typical Procedures on Unit

• Abdominal surgeries: cholecystectomy, appendectomy, colectomy, diagnostic procedures, paracentesis, thoracentesis, heart catheterizations
• Orthopedic procedures: gastric sleeves, total hip, knee and shoulder replacements, ortho trauma repairs (fractures)

Certifications & Licenses

• Registered Nurse License (Texas)
• BLS (Basic Life Support)
• ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support)
• NIH Stroke Scale (NIHS)

Additional Information

• Mandatory floating as needed to inpatient rehab, Emergency Department, and Progressive Care Unit (assignments within skill level and scope only)
• Dress Code: Currently black scrubs; transitioning to Medical City Blue

Requirements/Qualifications

• Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Texas
• Minimum 1 year of Medical-Surgical and Telemetry nursing experience within the last year
• Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
• Current ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support) certification
• Current BLS (Basic Life Support) certification
• NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
• Telemetry experience
