Job Opportunity: Medical Surgical Registered Nurse

Location: Amarillo, Texas
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Unit Details

Patient population: Mixed medical/surgical and intermediate care patients
Nurse-to-patient ratio: 1:4 to 1:6 depending on shift assignment
Shift options: 36 or 48 hour shifts, days only
Travel radius: 50 miles (no local candidates)

Required Experience

Minimum 2 years of nursing experience preferred
Prior travel experience not required

Required Skills & Certifications

Epic electronic health record experience required
Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in Texas
Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification (as applicable)
Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification (as applicable)
Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification (as applicable)
Chemotherapy certification (as applicable)
Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC) certification (as applicable)
Management of Assaultive Behavior (MAB) (as applicable)
NIH Stroke Certification (as applicable)
Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) certification (as applicable)

Compliance & Documentation Requirements

Valid Driver’s License or State ID
I-9 verification and E-Verify compliance
Background check covering 7 years, including SS trace, county searches, sex offender registry, and education verification
Education verification (diploma or transcript acceptable if final verification pending)
Fingerprinting (required for certain states; may be completed onsite during orientation)
Photo for badge (clear headshot)
Physical exam within 12 months of start date
Fit mask test within 1 year of start date (annual renewal required)
Immunizations and health screenings:
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (within 10 years)
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year
- Measles, Mumps, Rubella (positive titer or 2 vaccines)
- Hepatitis B (positive titer, series, or declination)
- Varicella (positive titer, 2 vaccines, or documented history)
- Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption during flu season
Negative 10-panel drug screen within 90 days of start, including amphetamines, barbiturates, benzodiazepines, cocaine, marijuana, methadone, opiates, oxycodone, and others
Onsite drug screen during orientation (only one attempt allowed; failure results in cancellation)

Work history verification for the past 7 years
Employment application and resume required

Requirements/Qualifications

Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Texas
Minimum 2 years of Medical-Surgical nursing experience, with experience within the last year
Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
Experience with Epic electronic health record system
