Location: Boston, Massachusetts

Position Details

  • Specialty: Pediatric Medical/Surgical ICU - PICU
  • Required Experience: Minimum 2 years in PICU
  • First-timers: Not accepted
  • Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
  • On-call: Not required
  • Floating: May float within scope to other ICUs as needed
  • Locals accepted within 50 miles

Required Certifications

  • NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) - Preferred for NICU, must have PALS or NRP
  • Chemo Certification - Required for Oncology (if applicable)
  • EFM (Electronic Fetal Monitoring) - Required for Labor & Delivery (if applicable)
  • Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) - Required for Psych and Behavioral Health positions
  • State License Verification - Must be verified through MA.gov within 30 days of start
  • NURSYS Verification - Required within 30 days of start
  • Professional Certification Verification - Must be verified within 30 days prior to start (e.g., ARRT for Radiology, NBRC for Respiratory Therapist)

Experience & Competencies

  • Pediatric Pharmacology Competency Exam required for all RNs and LPNs (not required for APNs)
  • Competency Exam required (not required for APNs)
  • Skills Checklist specific to unit and scope of practice within one year prior to start

Background & Compliance Requirements

  • 10-year criminal background check within 6 months prior to start, including aliases and multiple federal/state databases
  • Massachusetts Statewide iCORI clearance within 6 months of start
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required
  • Background checks must be started within 24 hours of booking and updated annually for direct candidates
  • Employment application with 10-year work history; gaps over 30 days require explanation
  • Two professional references from two separate employers within last 3 places of employment

Health & Immunization Requirements

  • Physical exam within 1 year of start, signed by MD, DO, PA, NP, or registered DC, stating cleared to work with no restrictions
  • Immunizations and proof required:
    • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (Tdap after age 11 acceptable, no declinations)
    • Negative TB test or chest x-ray (annual requirement)
    • MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) - proof of 2 vaccinations or positive titer
    • Hepatitis B - series and/or declination with documentation
    • Varicella - proof of 2 vaccinations or positive titer
  • Drug Testing: 9-panel drug screen within last 12 months (not required for APNs)
  • Seasonal Vaccinations:
    • Flu vaccine required annually (vaccines after 8/1 accepted; exemptions allowed for medical/religious reasons)
    • COVID-19 vaccine series proof required; boosters preferred but not mandatory; medical/religious exemptions accepted
  • COVID and Flu exemption forms must be completed separately if applicable

Additional Facility-Specific Requirements

  • RespSafety Clearance: Required for all travelers regardless of fit test status; virtual questionnaire reviewed by licensed healthcare professional; cost approx. $22
  • Onboarding Packet: Sent 2 weeks prior to start; must be completed and confirmation provided
  • Data Collection Form: Must be completed within 72 hours of signing
  • Background Check Attestation and other compliance forms required as per facility policy

Scheduling & Work Environment

  • Weekend shifts every other weekend required
  • Floating to other ICUs as needed within scope of practice
  • Night shift parking is free
  • Facility uses EPIC for charting
