Job Opportunity: Respiratory Therapist (RRT) - Travel/Contract

Location

Position Details

  • Specialty: Respiratory / Neuro Diagnostics
  • Employment Type: Travel/Contract
  • Shift: Night, 4 shifts per week, 12 hours each (19:00 - 7:30)
  • Contract Length: 13 weeks
  • Guaranteed Hours: 36 hours per week
  • Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
  • On-call: Not required
  • Floating: Not required
  • Locals not accepted
  • Pending license accepted
  • Return to Office (RTO) Restrictions: 2 requests allowed

Required Experience & Skills

  • Valid Respiratory Therapist license in Missouri
  • Minimum 2 years of Respiratory Therapist experience, including experience within the last year
  • BLS certification
  • Experience working with Neonate patients
  • Experience working with Pediatric patients
  • NICU and/or PICU experience
  • Emergency Department (ED) experience
  • Level 1 trauma facility experience
  • Pediatric critical care experience
  • Pediatrics experience

Required Certifications & Licenses

  • Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) license (Missouri license accepted; pending license accepted)
  • Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS)
  • Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) - AHA or AAP certified
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) - AHA only; PALS RQI accepted with standard 2-year expiration
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) - AHA only
  • Fit Mask (N95) certification required and must be current before starting; on-site testing not available for RRTs
  • Physical Exam within 1 year of start
  • Drug Testing within 1 year of start, must include specific panels and remain valid throughout assignment
  • Immunizations and Health Requirements:
    • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap vaccine or declination (Td acceptable for renewals)
    • Negative TB test (2 PPDs or T-Spot/Q-Gold within 1 year)
    • Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella, Varicella: Positive titer, vaccination, or medical exemption required; no exemptions allowed for NICU or newborn nursery staff
    • Seasonal Flu Vaccination or approved exemption required during flu season (09/30 - 04/01)
  • Background Checks:
    • Criminal background check within 6 months, including statewide and nationwide searches
    • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG quarterly checks
    • State-specific searches as applicable (Missouri and Illinois)
    • Fingerprinting required for Illinois long-term care or rehab assignments (not required for this position)
  • Professional License Verification via NURSYS (for Missouri)
  • Education Verification of highest related degree required before start

Competency & Testing Requirements

  • Pediatric Pharmacology exam required (not required for NICU)
  • Unit-specific competency exams required annually, including pediatric competency if joint exam unavailable
  • Medication/Pharmacology competency exam required; must meet passing score
  • Pass/Fail medication test at orientation

Additional Facility-Specific Requirements

  • Badge photo (head and shoulders, white background, no obstructions, taken within 6 months)
  • HIPAA Acknowledgement signed prior to start, updated annually
  • Latex Allergy Questionnaire completed annually
  • Confidentiality Form signed annually
  • Regulatory Compliance Education completed annually with minimum 80% score
  • Hand Hygiene and Fingernail Policies reviewed and acknowledged prior to start
  • Dress Code Policy reviewed and acknowledged prior to start
  • References: Two professional references required; supervisors preferred within last year
  • Employment Application must be submitted and uploaded
  • Unit-specific skills checklist required within 1 year of start
  • MO FCSR Worker Registration Form required (time sensitive; results take up to 7 business days)

Notes

  • Candidates must have facial hair that allows proper fit testing or be willing to shave
  • PAPR use only allowed with medical or religious exemption and facility approval
  • First-time travelers are accepted; prior travel experience is not required
  • No floating outside scope of practice
  • Locals are not accepted for this position

This position offers an opportunity to work in a high-acuity pediatric acute care and trauma environment with a focus on respiratory care requiring specialized NICU/PICU experience. Compliance with extensive background checks, immunizations, certifications, and competency testing is mandatory.
