Job Opportunity: Sterile Processing Educator

Location: Charleston, South Carolina
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Description

  • Position: Sterile Processing Educator
  • Shift: Monday to Friday, 7:00 AM – 3:30 PM
  • Weekend requirements vary based on need
  • Clinician may float within scope to meet facility needs
  • Guaranteed hours with facility allowed to call off 1 shift per 2 weeks
  • Hurricane season (June-November) may require assignment to emergency response teams

Requirements/Qualifications

  • Minimum 3 years of experience as a Sterile Processing Technician, including experience within the last year
  • Minimum 2 years of experience as a Sterile Processing Educator or Clinical Educator
  • Minimum 3 years of sterile processing experience within sterile processing and/or Operating Room
  • Must hold and maintain certification in sterile processing from either CRCST (Healthcare Sterile Processing Association) or CBSPD (Certification Board for Sterile Processing and Distribution)
  • High school diploma or GED equivalent

Licensure & Certifications

  • Sterile Processing certification (CRCST or CBSPD) mandatory
  • BLS not required
  • Other certifications such as ACLS, PALS, NRP, TNCC, etc., are not applicable for this role

Compliance & Documentation Requirements

  • Proof of work eligibility (I-9 attestation and documentation)
  • Copy of Driver’s License or State ID
  • Social Security Card or SSN verification
  • Background checks including SSN trace, criminal, sex offender registry, and others as required
  • Education verification or diploma/transcripts preferred
  • Annual physical exam and sterile processing-specific physical assessment completed by a licensed provider within 1 year of start
  • Fit test for N95 mask within 90 days prior to start, renewed annually
  • Immunizations and health screenings including:
    • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (within 10 years) or declination form
    • Negative TB test (T-spot or Q-Gold within 90 days) or chest X-ray if positive history
    • Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella immunity or vaccination/booster documentation
    • Hepatitis B titer, vaccine series, or declination
    • Seasonal flu vaccination or medical/religious exemption (flu declinations not accepted)
  • 10-panel drug screen within 90 days of start
  • COVID vaccination records highly preferred; declination form required if not vaccinated
  • Radiation badge may be required depending on unit assignment

Orientation & Facility Specifics

  • Completion of orientation modules prior to start (approx. 2 hours)
  • Submission of a clear, passport-style photo for badge issuance before start
  • Upload vaccination records and required documents into facility system prior to orientation
  • Facility may accommodate block scheduling with manager approval

Additional Notes

  • Local candidates accepted on a case-by-case basis
  • All requests for time off must be submitted at time of application and are subject to unit approval
  • Travelers should be prepared for possible emergency assignments during hurricane season (June-November)
