Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Description
- Work in a Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) with an average daily census of 2-4 patients.
- Unit size: 6 rooms/beds with a staffing ratio of 1:2.
- Night shift: 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7:00 PM to 7:30 AM).
- Floating to NICU or other units within skill set may be required; orientation provided.
- Patient diagnoses include Pediatric Critical Care, ENT, General Surgery, Orthopedics, Post-Op/Pre-Op.
- Special procedures include:
- Breathing treatments
- Chest tube setup and care
- CPAP/BiPAP, high frequency vents, oscillators
- Procedure sedation, rapid sequence intubation (RSI) drugs
- Tracheostomy care, ventilator management
- Blood and blood product administration
- Central venous pressure (CVP) monitoring, 12-lead EKG acquisition
- Management of drains, epidural pumps, PCA pumps, PICC/central lines, port-a-cath care
- Syringe pumps, traction/halo/pin care, triple lumen catheter, wound vac
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Washington.
- Minimum 2 years of recent Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) experience, including experience within the last year.
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).
- Certifications:
- Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS)
- Basic Life Support (BLS) issued by the American Heart Association or Canadian Heart and Stroke Foundation
- Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS)
- Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP)
Health and Safety Requirements
- Physical exam within 1 year of start, signed by MD, NP, PA, or DO.
- Immunizations and screenings required:
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (within 10 years or declination accepted)
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 12 months (annual updates required)
- MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) vaccination or positive titer/declination
- Hepatitis B vaccination or signed declination
- Varicella vaccination or positive titer/declination
- Seasonal flu vaccine or declination during flu season
- COVID-19 vaccination record preferred (declinations accepted)
- Drug screening: 9-panel drug screen within 12 months of start.
- Respirator clearance required annually for travel staff.
- Fit mask testing required for travel staff (updated annually).
Background and Compliance
- Background check within 90 days of start covering all locations lived/worked in past 7 years; must be updated annually.
- State-specific searches and registries as required by Washington state law.
- Education verification required for nursing degree.
- Employment application covering at least last 5 years required.
- Work history verification may be required if reference requirements are not met.
- Completion of annual regulatory and specialty-specific training modules via LMS required.
Additional Information
- Scrubs of any color allowed.
- Floating policy acknowledgment required; may float to other facilities within reasonable distance.
- Self-scheduling priority given to permanent staff; travelers must meet unit needs.
- Prior travel experience is not explicitly required for this position.
