Registered Nurse - PACU (Travel/Contract)

Location: Lafayette, Louisiana
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Details

  • Shift Options:
    • Day shift, 5x8 hours (8:00 AM - 4:30 PM)
    • Alternative scheduling available: 4x10s (8:00 AM - 6:30 PM), preference for 4x10s
  • Floating: None required
  • On-Call: None
  • Block Scheduling: Accommodated (4x10s or 3x12s)
  • Accepts First-Time Travelers: Yes, if candidate has many years of PACU experience and Epic system knowledge
  • Experience Requirement: Minimum 2 years PACU experience required (no exceptions for less than 2 years)
  • Return to Office (RTO) Restrictions: No excessive RTO restrictions
  • Emergency Team Assignment: May be required to stay onsite during emergency events or serve on relief team as assigned by unit manager

Required Certifications

  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) - AHA or RQI accepted; renewal required if expiring within 30 days of start
  • BLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA or RQI accepted; renewal required if expiring within 30 days of start
  • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) - AHA or RQI accepted; required for PACU specialty
  • Additional certifications may be required depending on unit assignment; verify with program management if unclear

Licensure

  • Active Louisiana RN license or Compact RN license required upon submission and effective immediately
  • License must be current or in renewal process if expiring within 30 days of start

Background and Verification Requirements

  • 7-year criminal background check within 90 days of start, updated annually
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within 30 days of start, updated monthly
  • Education verification of highest level completed (transcript/diploma acceptable if verification unavailable)
  • Sex offender search within 30 days of start, updated monthly
  • NURSYS license verification within 30 days of start

Health and Immunization Requirements

  • Physical exam within 12 months prior to start, indicating good physical health
  • Negative TB test (PPD, Qgold, or Tspot) within 12 months; if positive, additional documentation required
  • Immunity or vaccination documentation required for:
    • Rubeola (Measles)
    • Mumps
    • Rubella
    • Hepatitis B
    • Varicella
  • Tdap vaccine required for select units (verify if applicable)
  • Seasonal flu vaccination, declination, or medical/religious exemption required during flu season (Oct 1 - Mar 31)
  • Negative 10-panel drug screen within 60 days of start; instant screenings not accepted

Additional Requirements

  • Current/valid driver's license or government photo ID (color copy required)
  • Passport-style photo (color, plain background, no filters) to be uploaded within 24 hours of booking
  • Competency exam specific to specialty, completed within 1 year prior to start, minimum 80% score, updated annually
  • Skills checklist updated annually
  • Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) certification not required for ICU but may be required for other specialties (verify if applicable)
  • Fit mask testing (N95) within 1 year of start; onsite fit testing available if needed with prior authorization
  • Employment application/resume required with 7 years employment history and explanation for gaps

Requirements/Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Louisiana
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
  • Minimum 2 years of PACU (Post Anesthesia Care Unit) experience
  • PACU experience within the last year
  • Current ACLS certification
  • Current BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
  • Current PALS certification issued by the American Heart Association

Notes

  • Candidates should be comfortable with potential emergency team assignments requiring extended onsite presence
  • Prior travel experience is not explicitly required for this role
