Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse – Pediatric Cardiac ICU (Travel/Contract)

Location

Position Details

  • Specialty: Registered Nurse (Pediatric Cardiac ICU)
  • Employment Type: Travel/Contract
  • Shift: Night shift, 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7:00 PM – 7:30 AM)
  • Patient Ratio: 1:1 or 1:2 depending on patient acuity
  • Weekend Requirement: 4 weekend shifts in a 4-week schedule, including holiday rotation
  • Floating: May be required to float within the unit scope to meet facility needs
  • Contract Length: 13 weeks

Unit Description

  • 29-bed Pediatric Cardiology Intensive Care Unit (PCICU), Beacon Award-winning
  • Referral center for major pediatric cardiac surgery in South Carolina
  • Average daily census: 26 patients with cardiac surgical and medical diagnoses
  • Patient population includes congenital heart disease of any age
  • Common procedures: cardiac surgery, ventricular assist devices (VAD), heart transplant, cardiac catheterization
  • Advanced therapies provided: ECMO, CRRT, ventilatory and cardiac support
  • Pediatric palliative care available as needed
  • Staffing includes RNs, Patient Care Technicians, Unit Secretaries, Respiratory Therapy, Pediatric Dietitians, and Pharmacists
  • All beds are monitored beds

Required Qualifications

  • Valid RN license in South Carolina
  • Minimum 2 years of Pediatric Cardiac ICU (CVPICU) experience, with experience within the last year
  • Experience working with pediatric patients
  • Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification issued by American Heart Association

Additional Requirements

  • Proof of 2 clinical references or hospital evaluations
  • Completion of competency exams and medication/pharmacology competency as applicable
  • Color blindness testing required prior to start
  • Fit test for N95 mask within 90 days prior to start, renewed annually
  • Annual physical exam attesting ability to meet physical demands
  • Immunizations and titers required or proof of immunity for:
    • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (within 10 years)
    • Measles (Rubeola)
    • Mumps
    • Rubella
    • Varicella
    • Hepatitis B (titer, vaccine series, or declination)
  • Negative TB test (T-spot or Q-Gold) within 90 days of start or proof of prior positive with chest x-ray
  • 10-panel drug screen within 90 days of start
  • Seasonal flu vaccination or medical/religious exemption required during flu season
  • COVID-19 vaccination highly preferred; declination form required if not vaccinated
  • Background checks including 7-year work/living history, criminal, sex offender registry, and federal exclusions
  • Education verification and primary source license verification required
  • NURSYS verification for RN license required
  • Facility-specific orientation modules and first day instructions must be completed prior to start
  • Clear, passport-style badge photo required before start date
  • Local candidates accepted within 60-mile radius

Work Environment & Notes

  • This is a Level I Trauma Center, Teaching Facility, and Magnet Hospital
  • Electronic health record system: EPIC
  • Parking permit required with a $20 registration fee for garage use
  • Guaranteed hours: traveler may be cancelled for one shift every two weeks
  • Travel pairs are not accepted for this unit
  • Block scheduling accommodations may be available at manager’s discretion

This position offers an opportunity to work in a nationally recognized pediatric cardiac ICU with advanced therapies and a multidisciplinary team. Ideal candidates will have strong pediatric cardiac critical care experience and appropriate certifications.
