ICU Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Job - Ventura, California


Position Overview

  • Specialty: Registered Nurse (ICU)
  • Location: Ventura, California
  • Employment Type: Travel/Contract
  • Shift: Nights, 3 shifts of 12 hours each (18:45 - 7:15)
  • Weekly Hours: 36
  • Patient Population: Adolescents to Geriatrics
  • Nurse-to-Patient Ratio: 1:2
  • Float Requirement: Yes, within service line
  • Contract Length: 13 weeks

Requirements / Qualifications

  • Valid RN license in California
  • Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
  • Minimum 3 years of ICU (Intensive Care Unit) experience, including experience within the last year
  • One completed travel assignment
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
  • BLS (Basic Life Support) issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
  • NIHSS (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale) certification
  • TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course) or TCAR (Trauma Care After Resuscitation)
  • Experience with interpretation and management of dysrhythmias
  • Experience managing multi-system organ failure
  • Knowledge of IV insulin protocols
  • Experience in GI surgery care
  • Experience with chronic and acute renal failure
  • Experience with CVVHD/CRRT, shunts, and fistula care
  • Blood product administration experience
  • Central line care and PICC line management
  • Skilled in starting IVs, continuous IV sedation, and procedural sedation administration
  • Ability to titrate cardiac and vasoactive drips
  • CVA/acute stroke management experience
  • Experience with Cerner electronic charting system

Required Certifications

  • Current California RN license
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
  • BCLS (Basic Cardiac Life Support)
  • NIH Stroke Certification
  • TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course) or TCAR (Trauma Care After Resuscitation)
  • CPR certification (BCLS covers this)

Preferred Certifications

  • CPI (Crisis Prevention Institute) or MAB (Management of Assaultive Behavior) as a placeholder while obtaining CPI

Charting & Systems Experience

  • Must have experience with Cerner electronic charting system
  • Strict adherence to accurate charting and assessments is critical due to extensive chart audits

Compliance & Onboarding Requirements

  • Background checks including 7-year history, sex offender, FACIS, EPLS/GSA/SAM, HHS/OIG, and California Medi-Cal exclusion within 30 days prior to start
  • Government-issued photo ID (Driver’s License or State ID)
  • Emergency contact form
  • E-Verify or attestation
  • Physical exam within 1 year of start, updated annually
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 12 months, with additional requirements for positive or allergy cases
  • Immunizations or titers for Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella, Hepatitis B, Varicella
  • 10-panel drug screen within 1 year, updated annually
  • Seasonal flu vaccination or approved exemption with mask mandate during flu season
  • COVID vaccination required (declinations accepted)
  • Completion of mandatory compliance training annually (including trauma education modules if no current trauma certification)
  • Advanced EKG exam with passing score required prior to start (exceptions apply for certain units)
  • Review and completion of facility-specific competency validations, policies, and orientation attestations prior to start

Additional Notes

  • No first-time travel nurses accepted for this assignment
  • Must be able to start ASAP
  • Float within the service line is required
  • No travel pairs allowed

This position is ideal for experienced ICU RNs with strong trauma and neuro ICU backgrounds who have prior travel nursing experience and are ready for a night shift travel contract in Ventura, California.
