Job Opportunity: Operating Room Registered Nurse
Location: New Brunswick, New Jersey
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Details
- Shift: Evening, Monday to Friday, 5x8 hour shifts (3:00 PM - 11:30 PM)
- Schedule: No weekends or holidays
- Unit: Stand-alone cancer center specializing in surgical oncology patients
- Floating: May float to Main OR at nearby facility connected by pedestrian bridge
- Patient Population: Surgical oncology
- Equipment Experience: DV5 Robotics, Da Vinci Xi Surgical System
- Role Requirements: Circulating nurse required; scrub nurse highly preferred
- Charting System: EPIC experience required
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in New Jersey
- Minimum 2 years of Operating Room (OR) experience, including experience within the last year
- Experience working with Level 1 or Level 2 Trauma patients
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- Experience with EPIC charting system
Compliance and Documentation Requirements
- Background Checks:
- Criminal background check within 30 days of start
- Must include all aliases, locations lived/worked in past 7 years, and various federal/state databases
- No open cases allowed at start
- Health Screenings:
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within required timeframes
- Physical exam within the past year confirming ability to perform essential job functions and free of communicable disease
- Drug screen within 30 days of start (10-panel urine test)
- Seasonal influenza vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required annually
- Immunizations or proof of immunity for Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, Hepatitis B, and Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap
- Fit Testing: Mandatory on-site respirator fit test on first day; must be clean-shaven unless accommodation approved
- Respiratory Medical Clearance: Required prior to start, must be updated annually
- Color Blind Testing: Required if job tasks involve color discrimination; must pass with minimum 80%
- Competency Exams:
- Medication/Pharmacology competency exam within 72 hours of signing
- Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam (required for critical care and telemetry units)
- IV Therapy/Infusion exam (not required for OR specialties)
- Pass/fail testing for EKG and medication knowledge with remediation policy
- References: Two references within last 2 years, including at least one managerial reference
- Employment History: Resume or application with 7 years of work history; New Jersey candidates require verification of at least 1 year prior to start with no gaps over 30 days
- Skills Checklist: Must be completed and updated annually
