Registered Nurse (RN) - PCU (Progressive Care Unit) - Nights
Location: Evansville, Indiana
Employment Type: Long-Term Assignment (LTA)
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Unit & Patient Population
- Progressive Cardiac Care Unit with 28 beds
- Patient population includes Medical, Cardiac, Pre/Post Cardiovascular Surgery, Arrhythmia, Heart Failure, and Stroke overflow
- Patient ratio: 1 nurse to 4-5 patients
- Night shift: 6:45 PM to 7:15 AM
Required Qualifications
- Valid RN license in Indiana
- Minimum 1 year of Progressive Care Unit (PCU) experience within the last year
- Basic Life Support (BLS) issued by American Heart Association
- Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) issued by American Heart Association
- NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification or competency
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
Onboarding & Testing Requirements (Must be completed prior to or at start)
- Ascension Pharmacology Exam (minimum 80%, max 2 attempts; updated every 3 years)
- Ascension Medical Surgical Exam (minimum 80%, max 2 attempts; updated every 3 years)
- Ascension EKG Exam (minimum 80%, max 2 attempts; updated every 3 years)
- Ascension Core Competencies (HIPAA, Joint Commission, NPSG, OSHA; minimum 80% or national benchmark; updated every 3 years)
- Ascension Skills Checklist (clinical specialty-specific; completed within 1 year of start; updated annually)
- Ascension Nursing Contract Worker Onboarding (completed onsite)
- Ascension Onboarding Requirements Education Attestation (6 hours pre-hire training)
- Ascension Badge Photo (forward-facing headshot, white or blue background, no filters)
Health & Immunization Requirements
- MMR: Documented proof of two vaccines or positive IgG titer; no declinations accepted
- Varicella: Documented proof of two vaccines, serological immunity, or verified history; no declinations accepted
- Tdap: Valid within 10 years; no declinations accepted
- Hepatitis B: Documentation of vaccination series completion or signed declination
- Influenza Vaccine: Optional; if declined during flu season, mask required
- 2-Step PPD or IGRA (Quantiferon/Tspot): Negative results required; if positive, negative chest X-ray and annual TB questionnaire required
- Fit Test: Required annually; preferred before start, can be completed onsite (PAPR not done onsite)
- Health Statement: Statement of good health or physical exam prior to first assignment; updated annually
- 12 Panel Drug Screen: Within 30 days prior to start; updated annually; retesting required if break in service > 90 days
Documentation & Verification (Must be submitted prior to start)
- Resume/Profile
- Two professional references
- Driver’s License or State ID (valid, not expired, matching address requirements)
- License/Certificate primary source verification within 30 days prior to start
- Criminal Background Check (7-year search including SSN trace, OIG, National Sex Offender, etc.; updated annually or if break in service > 90 days)
- EPLS (Excluded Parties List System) check within 90 days of start; rerun if break in service > 90 days
- Education Verification relevant to clinical work within 90 days of start; rerun if break in service > 90 days
- Employment Verification for past 7 years; updated annually or if break in service > 90 days
- Confirmation of Assignment on agency letterhead with accurate start/end dates
Additional Notes
- Optional: Ascension Unit Specific Checklist (uploaded by unit leader within one week of start)
- Post-assignment Hiring Manager Evaluation may be requested
- Legal name change documentation optional if applicable
