Job Opportunity: Critical Care Float Nurse
Location: Madison, Wisconsin
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Work Schedule
- Night shifts, 12 hours each (1900-0730)
- 3 shifts per week (36 hours/week)
- Every other weekend required
Unit & Patient Population
- Experience with multiple ICU units including:
- Neuro ICU
- Cardiothoracic ICU
- Burn ICU
- Trauma Surgery
- Also includes Intermediate Care (IMC), Progressive Care, and General Care populations
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Wisconsin
- Minimum 1 year of recent ICU (Intensive Care Unit) experience, including Burn ICU experience
- Float experience in critical care settings
- Current ACLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
- Current BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
Compliance & Background Requirements
- Background check within 90 days prior to start, covering all locations lived/worked/schooled in past 7 years
- Monthly monitoring through federal exclusion lists (EPLS/GSA/SAM, HHS/OIG) after hire
- Wisconsin Caregiver Screening required within 90 days of start
- Education verification as applicable for RN license
- Drug screening required per standard clinical candidate protocols
Testing & Competency Exams
- Telemetry Pass/Fail Testing (EKG/Medication) required before start and annually thereafter
- Telemetry test must be completed via facility-approved LMS platform with strict passing criteria (80% overall, 100% lethal rhythms)
- Remediation and retesting allowed up to 3 attempts; failure after 3 attempts results in contract cancellation
- Medication/Pharmacology competency exams as applicable
Certifications & Training
- BLS and ACLS must be current and issued by AHA
- Orientation Safety Manual Acknowledgement required annually
- Signed acknowledgment of pass/fail telemetry testing required
- NURSYS license verification within 30 days of start and upon expiration
Health & Immunization Requirements
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray per facility protocol
- Annual TB Questionnaire required
- MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella): 2 doses or positive titers required; medical/religious exemptions accepted with facility approval
- Varicella: 2 doses or positive titer required; medical/religious exemptions accepted
- Hepatitis B vaccination series or declination form required for direct patient care roles
- Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required annually (Sept-April)
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap vaccination proof required
- Meningococcal vaccine or declination required if working in Microbiology (not typical for RN role)
- Drug screening per clinical standards
Documentation & Other Requirements
- Photo for badge (passport-style, no headwear except religious/medical) required prior to start
- Physical exam must be collected within 1 year (Aya standard)
- Employment application and skills checklist required annually
- Two clinical references within last 3 years (Aya standard)
- Wisconsin BID form must be completed promptly for caregiver screening

This is a 13-week travel contract for a Critical Care Float RN working night shifts in a Wisconsin hospital. The role requires strong ICU experience across multiple critical care units, current Wisconsin or compact RN licensure, and certifications in BLS and ACLS.
