Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse - Pediatrics
Location: Newark, New Jersey
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Description
- 13-week travel contract
- Specialty in Pediatrics with experience in chemotherapy/oncology required
- Unit types include general pediatrics, hematology/oncology, orthopedics, and surgical
- Floating assignments to PICU and NICU, with possible additional float units based on skill set and hospital needs
- Every other weekend shift (Saturday/Sunday)
- Patient ratio approximately 1:5
- Charting system: EPIC
- Scrub color: Navy
- First-time travelers are accepted
Required Experience
- Minimum 1.5 years of pediatric nursing experience
- Must have general pediatrics experience
- Chemotherapy/Oncology experience required
Required Certifications & Licenses
- Current Registered Nurse (RN) license valid in New Jersey
- APHON BLS (Basic Life Support)
- PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)
- NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) preferred but not required
- OCN (Oncology Certified Nurse) preferred but not required
Additional Requirements
- Must be able to float to PICU and NICU units as needed
- Block or special scheduling requests require prior approval at booking
- References: Two references within the last 2 years, including at least one managerial reference
- Employment application or resume with 7 years of work history required
- Work history verification required for New Jersey candidates (minimum 1 year prior to start date)
Compliance & Documentation
- Background check required within 30 days of start
- Drug screen required within 30 days of start
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray required within 3 months of start
- Physical exam within the last 12 months, cleared to perform essential job functions and free of communicable disease
- Respiratory medical clearance and fit testing required prior to start
- Annual influenza vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required
- Various competency exams and certifications must be completed or on file, including medication/pharmacology, dysrhythmia/EKG, IV therapy/infusion, and pediatric advanced life support
- Completion of facility-specific education and safety acknowledgments prior to start
Scheduling & Work Conditions
- Every other weekend coverage (Saturday and Sunday)
- Floating to PICU and NICU units as needed
- Patient ratio approximately 1 nurse to 5 patients
- Use of EPIC electronic charting system
Notes
- Prior travel experience is not required; first-time travelers are accepted
- Must comply with all facility-specific policies and training requirements
- Candidate must be able to provide all required documentation and clearances in a timely manner

Staff and management are very friendly. The ratios are pretty good. Sometimes it gets very busy and sometimes transport is put in by someone else before you even have the patient ready to go. They are very flexible with scheduling and their weekend requirements are reasonable.
