Job Opportunity: Medical Surgical Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract)

Location: Charleston, South Carolina
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Position Details

  • Specialty: Registered Nurse (Medical Surgical)
  • Shift: 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7:00 AM - 7:30 PM), totaling 36 hours/week
  • Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
  • Patient Ratios: Approximately 1:5 (may vary based on staffing)
  • Floating: Required to float within scope to like units or sister facilities
  • On-call: Not applicable

Required Qualifications

  • Experience: Minimum 2 years of Medical Surgical nursing experience (first-time travelers not accepted)
  • License: South Carolina RN license or Multi-State/Compact RN license
  • Certifications:
    • Basic Life Support (BLS) - AHA or ARC certified
  • Additional Certifications:
    • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) may be required depending on unit (check specific unit requirements)
  • Prior Travel Experience: Not explicitly required

  • Licensure Verification: Primary source verification required; NURSYS verification for RNs
  • Drug Testing: 10-panel drug screen within 90 days of start (no instant tests)
  • References: Proof of 2 clinical references required
  • Employment History: Verification of last 3 clinical employers required

Health & Safety Requirements

  • Physical Exam: Initial and annual physical exam attesting ability to meet job demands
  • Fit Mask Test: N95 fit test within 90 days prior to start, renewed annually
  • Immunizations & Titers:
    • Tdap within 10 years or declination form
    • Negative TB test (T-spot or Q-Gold) within 90 days or proof of prior positive with chest x-ray
    • Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella: Positive titer or vaccination series with boosters if low titer
    • Hepatitis B: Titer, vaccine series, or declination required
    • Varicella: Positive titer or vaccination series with boosters if low titer
    • Seasonal Flu Vaccine required during flu season or medical/religious exemption (no declinations accepted)
  • COVID-19 Vaccination: Not required but highly preferred; vaccination records must be uploaded or declination form completed

Competency & Testing

  • Medication/Pharmacology competency exam required
  • Color blindness testing required prior to start
  • Competency exam required (unit-specific variations may apply)

Orientation & Facility Specifics

  • Completion of orientation modules (approx. 2 hours) prior to start is mandatory
  • First Day Instructions (FDI) and OurDay platform modules must be completed before orientation
  • Passport-style badge photo required before start
  • Upload COVID and flu vaccine documentation into OurDay platform
