Job Opportunity: Pediatric Critical Care Float Pool Registered Nurse
Location: Charleston, South Carolina
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Details
- Shift: Night shift, 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7:00 PM – 7:30 AM)
- Hours per Week: 36 hours
- Weekend Requirement: Minimum 3-4 weekend shifts per schedule, including holiday rotation
- Patient Ratios: 1:2 or 1:3
- Float Pool: RN will float within scope to all pediatric units including CVPICU, NICU, and PICU
- Local Radius: 60 miles
- Locals Accepted: Yes, on a case-by-case basis
Required Qualifications
- Valid RN license in South Carolina
- Minimum 2 years of Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) experience, with at least some experience within the last year
- BLS certification issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
- PALS certification issued by American Heart Association
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- Experience working with pediatric patients
Schedule & Work Conditions
- Block scheduling may be accommodated with manager approval and unit needs consideration
- Facility may call off 1 shift every 2 weeks
- During hurricane season (June–November, peak in August and September), all staff may be assigned to emergency response teams
Required Documentation & Compliance
- Background Checks:
- Annual background check covering all locations lived/worked in past 7 years
- Includes SSN trace, state and national criminal checks, sex offender registry, FACIS 3, and international searches if applicable
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within 30 days of start and updated for renewals
- Education Verification: Required; diploma or transcripts accepted as placeholder if verification pending
- Work History Verification: Last 3 clinical employers verified; attestation letters accepted only if other verification methods exhausted
- References: Proof of 2 clinical references or hospital evaluations
- Employment Application: Must include all PTO, contract assignments, agency names, and no unaccounted gaps
Certifications & Competencies
- Additional Certifications (as applicable):
- ACLS not required for pediatric units
- NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) through AHA/AAP required
- TNCC not required for ER RNs
- EFM not required for NICU
- Competency Exams: Required, including medication/pharmacology competency and OR competency if applicable
- Color Blind Testing: Required prior to start
Health & Safety Requirements
- Physical Exam: Initial and updated annually, attesting ability to meet physical demands
- Fit Mask Test: N95 fit test within 90 days prior to start, renewed annually (specific mask models required)
- Immunizations & Titers:
- Tdap within 10 years or declination form required
- Negative TB test (T-spot or Q-Gold) within 90 days or appropriate follow-up for positive history
- Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella, Varicella: Positive titer or vaccination series required; boosters may be needed for low titers
- Hepatitis B: Titer, vaccine series, or declination required
- Seasonal Flu Vaccine: Required during flu season (Aug 1 – Mar 31); medical/religious exemptions accepted but no declinations
- Drug Testing: 10-panel drug screen within 90 days of start; no instant tests accepted
- COVID-19 Vaccination: Not required but highly preferred; vaccination records must be uploaded or declination form completed
Facility Specific Requirements
- Photo for Badge: Clear, passport-style photo with solid light background, frontal view, business casual attire, no hats or sunglasses
- Orientation Modules: Must be completed prior to start; estimated 2 hours; completed on a computer (not phone)
- Radiation Badge: Not required for this position
- Emergency Response: Awareness of possible hurricane season emergency assignments
Notes
- All required certifications must be valid beyond 30 days from start date; expiring certifications must be renewed or have scheduled renewal prior to start
- Requests for time off (RTO) must be submitted at time of application and are subject to unit approval
- Facility reserves the right to call off shifts as needed
