Registered Nurse - PCU (Night Shift) - Augusta, Georgia

Job Type

  • Travel/Contract assignment
  • Contract length: 12 weeks

Work Schedule

  • Night shift: 7:00 PM to 7:00 AM (3 shifts per week, 12 hours each)
  • Every other weekend off
  • Floating within facility/scope of practice as needed
  • Expected to work major holidays if they fall during assignment:
    • Memorial Day
    • Independence Day
    • Labor Day
    • Thanksgiving/Black Friday
    • Christmas Eve/Christmas Day
    • New Year's Eve/New Year's Day

Patient Population & Unit Description

  • Adult to Geriatric patients
  • Intermediate level care (monitoring interventions no more frequent than every hour)
  • Medical-surgical and telemetry patients with diagnoses such as:
    • Dysrhythmias
    • Congestive Heart Failure (CHF)
    • Acute onset stroke (not requiring TPA or critical care)
    • Acute Coronary Syndrome / Myocardial Ischemia
  • Fast-paced environment focused on patient throughput and patient-centered care
  • All patients are on hardwire telemetry, self-monitored by the RN
  • Nurse-to-patient ratio: 1:4
  • Unit census: 12 beds
  • Unit systems: Epic (EHR), Pyxis (medication dispensing)
  • Scrub color: Navy Blue
  • Return to Office (RTO) maximum: 7 days

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse license in Georgia
  • Minimum 2 years of Progressive Care Unit (PCU) experience, with at least some experience within the last year
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
  • BLS certification issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
  • ACLS certification issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross

Compliance & Orientation

  • Full compliance with all requirements is mandatory to start on time
  • Orientation scheduling is bi-weekly; non-compliance may delay start by 2 weeks
  • Number of non-billable orientation hours depends on contract length (e.g., 8 hours for 8 weeks)

Required Documents & Verifications

  • Valid Driver’s License or State ID (photo ID required)
  • Background check completed within 30 days prior to start, including:
    • County and national criminal searches
    • Sex offender registry
    • Education verification
  • Education verification of related degree (can be pending at start with proof it is in process)
  • State RN license verification within 30 days prior to start
  • Annual Nursys verification within 30 days prior to start
  • Physical exam within 12 months prior to start (not required by client but required by agency)
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 12 months (or proof of positive TB with negative chest X-ray within 6 months)
  • TB questionnaire updated annually (required regardless of TB test result)
  • Immunizations/vaccinations:
    • Flu vaccine or signed declination (required during flu season)
    • MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella): 2 vaccines or positive titer; boosters allowed post-start if eligible
    • Varicella: 2 vaccines or positive titer; boosters allowed post-start if eligible
    • Hepatitis B surface antibody titer or signed declination
    • TDAP (Tetanus/Diphtheria/Pertussis) highly recommended but not required
  • Negative 10-panel drug screen within 60 days prior to start (instant drug screen acceptable)
  • References: 2 clinical references required by agency
  • Skills checklist within 12 months, updated annually
  • Verification of most recent work history (can be pending at start with proof it is in process)

Competency Requirements

  • Medication/Pharmacology competency exam (required by agency)
  • Color blindness test (minimum 80% passing score required; alternative assessment available if needed)
  • Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam (required for telemetry and related units; maximum 3 attempts allowed)

Additional Notes

  • Floating within the facility as needed, within scope of practice
  • Candidate must review and sign facility-specific Code of Conduct and Dress/Professional Appearance policies prior to start
  • Locals accepted at the same rate
  • Manager review of candidate profile occurs within 48 hours after confirmation if clinical pass and RTO guidelines are met
