Registered Nurse - Endoscopy Center

Location: Urbana, Illinois
Employment Type: Clinical Nursing
Shift: Day shift, 4 days per week
Hours: 9 hours per day (typically starting between 6:30 AM and 8:00 AM)
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Job Summary

Provide direct nursing care to patients undergoing routine gastrointestinal endoscopy procedures (colonoscopy and upper endoscopy) including preparation, intra-procedure monitoring, and recovery phases. Deliver moderate sedation under physician direction and collaborate with unit staff to care for outpatient populations. Delegate tasks to unlicensed personnel as appropriate.

Key Responsibilities

Perform initial patient assessments and develop individualized plans of care based on patient and family needs.
Implement and modify nursing interventions and patient care procedures throughout the care continuum.
Monitor and sedate patients during procedures, including assisting anesthesia providers when involved.
Provide care in both phase 1 and phase 2 recovery areas.
Maintain accurate and up-to-date documentation of nursing care.
Ensure patient and staff safety by identifying and addressing hazards.
Communicate effectively with team members and provide constructive feedback to peers.
Identify personal learning needs and pursue professional development.

Required Qualifications

Minimum of 3 years of relevant nursing experience.
Current Illinois Registered Nurse (RN) license in good standing.
Basic Life Support (BLS) certification (American Heart Association).
Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification (American Heart Association).
Education: Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) required; Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred.

Skills and Experience

Experience with moderate sedation and patient monitoring during endoscopy procedures.
Proficient in patient assessment and health history review.
Ability to start IVs and provide patient education.

Additional Information

Work schedule includes 4 day shifts per week, each 9 hours long, with rotating start times between 6:30 AM and 8:00 AM.
Prior travel experience is not required.
