Job Description

• Perform all nursing responsibilities and duties specific to the unit’s scope of service.
• Implement procedures and theories related to advanced care nursing practice.
• Maintain accurate and up-to-date documentation of nursing care to support the healthcare team.
• Complete initial patient assessments upon admission and develop appropriate plans of care based on patient and family needs.
• Implement and modify plans of care and nursing interventions through continuous evaluation.
• Ensure patient and employee safety by identifying and addressing safety hazards and incidents.
• Communicate effectively with patients, families, and healthcare team members, including private discussions when necessary.
• Provide constructive feedback to peers and collaborate to expand professional knowledge.
• Identify personal learning needs and take initiative for professional development.
• Fulfill all departmental competency requirements.
• Monitor EMU (Epilepsy Monitoring Unit) patients 24/7 for seizure activity.
• Collaborate with critical care teams and hospitalists for advanced care patients.
• Utilize meaningful hourly rounding, bedside shift reports, and whiteboards to ensure good communication with patients and families.

Required Qualifications

• Valid RN license in Illinois
• Minimum of 1 year of neurology experience within the last year
• BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
• ACLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
• Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
• Experience in trauma nursing
• Experience in Progressive Care Unit (PCU), stepdown, or intermediate care settings
• Experience with Epic electronic health record system
