Job Opportunity: Staff Nurse Emergency Department

Location: Norwich, New York
Employment Type: Clinical Nursing
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Summary

As a Registered Nurse in the Emergency Department, you will provide patient-centered care by protecting, promoting, and optimizing health, preventing illness and injury, and alleviating suffering. You will be responsible for nursing care management, patient and family education, medication administration, and compliance with nursing standards and policies. The role includes participation in shared governance, professional development, and may involve charge nurse or shift coordinator duties.


Responsibilities

  • Assess, plan, delegate, coordinate, implement, and evaluate nursing care for a group of patients.
  • Serve as primary or accountable nurse as assigned.
  • Educate patients and families on health promotion and disease management.
  • Administer medications safely following hospital policies.
  • Contribute to productivity and resource utilization including staffing and time management.
  • Comply with nursing practice standards, regulatory requirements, and hospital policies.
  • Participate in unit councils, improvement initiatives, and peer review.
  • Engage in continuing education and professional development.
  • Integrate nursing research and evidence-based practice.
  • Support learning for new employees and students.
  • Perform charge nurse or shift coordinator duties when assigned.

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in New York State.
  • Minimum of 2 years of Emergency Department (ED) nursing experience, including experience within the last year.
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing from an accredited institution.
  • Certifications:
    • Basic Life Support (BLS) issued by the American Heart Association or American Red Cross
    • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS)
    • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) issued by the American Heart Association
    • Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC)
    • NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) knowledge and certification

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous clinical nursing experience in acute care or ambulatory settings.
  • Professional certification in a related nursing specialty.
  • Experience with EPIC electronic health records system.
  • NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) knowledge.
