Registered Nurse – Emergency Department
Location: Farmington, New Mexico
Employment Type: Travel
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: 7 PM – 7 AM
Weekly Hours: 36
Weekend Requirement: Minimum of two weekends per schedule
Call Requirement: None
Unit and Patient Profile
- Emergency Department with 48 beds (including flex space)
- Trauma Level III
- Patient Ratios: 4:1 in Main ED, 6:1 in Fast Track
- Patient Population includes ESRD, Cirrhosis, COPD, Psychiatric cases
- Common Diagnoses/Treatments: ESRD, Substance Abuse Disorders, Psychological Disorders, COPD, CHF, Abdominal Pain, Chest Pain
- Equipment used: Zoll Defibrillator, Level One Blood Transfuser, QinFlow Blood Warmer, Hospira Plum360, Freestyle and iStat POC devices, Ultrasound Guided IV
- Electronic Health Record system: Cerner
- Nursing model: Team nursing and Pod System
- Support staff includes Social Worker and Unit Educator
Required Qualifications
- Valid RN license in New Mexico
- Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
- Minimum 2 years of Emergency Department experience, including experience within the last year
- Required Certifications (must be from American Heart Association):
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support)
- PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)
- BLS (Basic Life Support)
- TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course)
- Skills/Experience in Trauma, Stroke, STEMI, Sepsis, Moderate Sedation

Pros
Unit is comprised of many travelers. Core staff and travelers have all been fantastic! The unit is set up quite well to manage the surges of patients. It is the only main hospital around so it can definitely provide good experience. Most of the providers I've encountered over the last couple months actually listen to the nurses and are easy to work with.
Cons
It is definitely busy before the size of the town. I can't say I have any other cons.
