Registered Nurse (ICU) - Travel Assignment

Location: Asheville, North Carolina
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Hours: 36 hours per week, 12-hour shifts, alternating weekends

Unit Overview

• Unit: Cardiac Intensive Care Unit (CICU)
• Beds: 16
• Patient Ratios: Typically 2:1 or 1:1; occasionally 3:1 depending on acuity
• Staffing: RNs only (no unit clerks or patient care techs)
• Equipment: Ventilators, Telemetry, Baxter IV Pumps, Intra-Aortic Balloon Pump (IABP), Continuous Renal Replacement Therapy (CRRT), Impella, Hypothermia equipment
• Documentation System: Cerner
• Floating Policy: Travelers float to all areas within the hospital

Required Qualifications

• Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in North Carolina
• Minimum 2 years of ICU (Intensive Care Unit) nursing experience, including experience within the last year
• Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) / Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
• ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support) certification
• BLS (Basic Life Support) certification

Skills and Competencies

• Must have experience with:

  • Titration of vesicant medications
  • Use and monitoring of pressors, sedation, and paralytics
  • Ventilator management and tracheostomy care
  • Telemetry interpretation
  • Understanding and interpretation of hemodynamics and pulmonary artery (PA) catheter setup
  • Transvenous pacing and cardioversion
• Familiarity with chest tube insertion and maintenance
• Advanced skills (preferred but not required):

  • IABP, Impella device management
  • CRRT

Procedures Performed on Unit

• Cardioversion
• Central line insertion
• Esophagogastroduodenoscopy (EGD)
• Bronchoscopy
• Chest tube insertions
• Pericardiocentesis
• Thoracentesis

Dress Code

• Scrub colors: All navy or navy and white only
• No pullovers or hoodies allowed
• Green scrubs only permitted if uniform is soiled at work

• The unit is recognized for high clinical quality and safety standards
• The hospital is a Level II trauma center with comprehensive stroke and neonatal intensive care units
• The unit supports advanced cardiac care including open heart and interventional cardiology services
• Scheduling offers consistent 36 hours per week with alternating weekends off
