Shift

• Nights
• 12-hour shifts
• 36 hours per week

Required Qualifications

• RN license
• BLS certification
• NIHSS certification
• At least 2 years of experience
• No license hits related to diverting meds or endangerment

Unit Details

• 38 beds, with capacity up to 42 in semi-private rooms
• Typical patient ratio: 1:4-5 on days and nights
• Common patient types include general surgery, appendectomy, fractures, GI, gynecology, and vascular cases
• Tele monitoring is used with monitor techs
• Must be able to recognize lethal rhythms and respond appropriately
• Respiratory equipment includes CPAP and nasal cannula

Responsibilities and Workflow

• Does not require titrating drips
• May need to float to other surgical units, other med-surg units, the ED for holds, or rarely to a COVID medical unit
• Travelers are first to float
• May be placed on standby if scheduled and not needed

Schedule Requirements

• Every other weekend
• No holiday requirement
• No call requirement

Orientation

• 3 days total: general orientation, then orientation on General Surgery and Ortho Spine

Additional Notes

• Scrubs: royal blue
• Charge nurse is outside of staffing
• Nursing assistants/PCA support is available
• Heparin is used per protocol
