Registered Nurse – Cardiac Cath Lab
Location: Peoria, Illinois
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Overview
- Work in a Cardiac Catheterization Lab with 6 suites/labs.
- Average daily cases range from 4 to 20, typically 1:1 nurse-to-case ratio.
- Shift: Days, 4 shifts per week, 10 hours per shift (40 hours/week).
- Orientation: 2-3 shifts of unit-specific orientation (non-billable).
- Scrubs provided.
Patient Population & Procedures
- Common diagnoses: STEMI, NSTEMI, Heart Failure, congenital heart defects, TAVR, MitraClip, Peripheral interventions.
- Cath Lab is separate from Interventional Radiology (IR) and Electrophysiology (EP).
Responsibilities & Skills
- Ability to read cardiac strips is required.
- Occasional titration of drips.
- Work collaboratively with a team including Registered Technologists (RTRs).
- Call teams consist of 4 people; regular cases staffed with 1 RN and 2 RTRs.
- Cardiologists are on call 24/7.
- Charge nurse acts as resource and coordinates calls; nurse on call serves as charge nurse when applicable.
Scheduling & Call Requirements
- 6-8 call shifts per month, including primary and backup call.
- Weekend call every 6-7 weekends, starting Friday 5:30 PM to Monday 6:00 AM. Backup weekend shifts are 24 hours, approximately once per month.
- Holiday call includes Easter backup shift.
- No floating required; experience in IR is a plus but not mandatory.
- Occasionally work overtime to complete emergent cases.
Technology & Equipment
- EMR: EPIC.
- Monitors: GE and Philips.
- Additional software: McKesson.
Required Certifications & Licenses
- Current Illinois RN license or proof that application process has been initiated.
- BLS (Basic Life Support) and ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support) certifications required.
Additional Requirements
- Must produce a negative drug screen (drug-free campus policy).
- Local candidates within 50 miles radius preferred.
- Must provide last four digits of SSN, middle initial, and requested time off during submission.
Notes
- Call off policy allows equivalent of 12 hours off every 13 weeks with no penalty.
- Non-billable orientation hours: 12 hours.
- Charge nurse available on each shift.
