Location: Centennial, Colorado
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Job Overview

  • Float pool position covering multiple emergency departments within a 60-mile radius of Denver city center (Zone 3).
  • No home base facility; must float between the following hospitals:
    • OrthoColorado Hospital (~10 miles from Denver)
    • Longmont United Hospital (~40 miles from Denver)
    • St. Anthony Hospital (~10 miles from Denver)
    • St. Anthony North Hospital (~12 miles from Denver)
  • Schedules released 4–6 weeks in advance with two formats:
    • Option A: Scheduled at a single facility for the week, may float within that facility.
    • Option B (Just-In-Time): Facility assigned 1–2 hours before shift start via call.
  • Weekend and holiday work required every other week.
  • Orientation lasts 2-3 days; clinicians must be in-state for orientation week.

Unit & Patient Care

  • Unit: Emergency Room (ER) Float Pool
  • Trauma Level: Varies by facility (mostly Level 3 trauma centers)
  • Stroke and STEMI receiving centers included.
  • Patient volume varies by location: approximately 40-168 patients per day.
  • Nurse-to-patient ratio: 1:4-5 depending on acuity.
  • Common patient diagnoses: abdominal pain, diabetes, NSTEMI, pneumonia, trauma, stroke, hypertension.
  • ER holds are intermixed within the ER; no separate psych/seclusion rooms.
  • Respiratory Therapists available 24/7; RNs expected to troubleshoot respiratory equipment and interpret telemetry strips.
  • Point of Care lab testing performed by RNs after training.
  • Tech support available for unit secretary duties, nurse assistance, and triage support.
  • Charge nurse takes assignment and supervises.

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum 2 years of Emergency Department (ED) nursing experience.
  • Certifications required:
    • ACLS (American Heart Association)
    • BLS (American Heart Association)
    • PALS (American Heart Association)
    • NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS)
    • Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC)
  • Must be licensed as a Registered Nurse (RN) in Colorado.
  • Must be able to float within the entire Zone 3 area.
  • Must have reliable housing within the 60-mile radius to accommodate floating requirements.

Scheduling & Work Environment

  • 12-hour night shifts.
  • Schedule created by leadership for 6 weeks at a time.
  • Travelers expected to be flexible and fill gaps in permanent scheduling.
  • Scrub color/dress code: Navy Blue.
  • No call or standby requirements.

  • Floating is mandatory across multiple facilities within the zone.
  • Orientation week requires physical presence in-state even if some modules are completed remotely.
  • No home base facility assigned; flexibility and adaptability to different ER environments are essential.
