ICU (Intensive Care Unit) RN

Overview

• 13-week assignment in Chandler, Arizona.
• Day shift, 12 hours per day, 36 hours per week.
• The role may float to tele as needed.
• The assignment includes ICU coverage with a medical/cardiac overflow unit and a sister ICU.

Required Qualifications

• 3 years of recent ICU experience.
• Experience must include either neuro or CV.
• Active BLS, ACLS, NIHSS, and an AZ license or compact license.
• Must pass a dysrhythmia exam before acceptance, with a maximum of 2 attempts.
• Must pass a Sim Lab on day 1 of orientation.

Preferred Qualifications

• TNCC.
• Level 1 experience.
• Neuro experience.
• Prior experience in a similar-sized ICU.

Schedule

• Self-scheduling is allowed.
• Typically every other weekend is required, with the possibility of up to 3 weekends per month if the unit needs extra coverage.
• One holiday off may be available during the assignment.
• No additional call or standby shifts are required.

Unit Details

• SICU / Medical ICU - Medical Cardiac + Overflow.
• 32-bed surgical ICU with trauma and neuro surgery patients.
• 36-bed medical cardiac unit plus a 12-bed overflow unit.
• RN-to-patient ratios are 1:2 and 1:1.
• Charge nurse does not take patients.
• No monitor techs on the unit; RNs interpret their own strips.
• RT is in the ICU 24/7.
• Navy scrubs are required.

Clinical Focus

• Trauma, neuro surgery, CVA, status post-TPA, sepsis, COVID, ARDS, DKA, flu, vascular surgeries.
• CVICU-type patients include on- and off-pump CABG, valves, post-caths, TAVR, IABP, Impella, ECMO, Tandem heart, and esophagectomies.

Floating

• May float to tele with a 1:3 or 1:4 ratio.
• Expectation is to float between the 3 ICUs.
