Location: Coeur d'Alene, Idaho
Employment Type: Contract Clinician

Job Summary

Join the Nursing Resource Team (NRT), a hospital-wide float department providing nursing care across multiple units including ER, ICU, PCU, Med Surg, and Behavioral Health (Adult Acute, Youth Acute, Addiction Recovery). This role requires flexibility, strong time management, and the ability to work collaboratively with various teams. Nurses will care for diverse patient populations and must adapt to different care settings throughout their shifts.


Key Responsibilities

  • Provide nursing care across ER, ICU, PCU, Med Surg, and Behavioral Health units.
  • Evaluate, plan, implement, and document nursing care for assigned patients.
  • Assist physicians during exams and procedures.
  • Perform patient tests and administer medications within RN scope of practice.
  • Promote patient independence through education on conditions, medications, and self-care.
  • Maintain familiarity with standards of care and procedures within the NRT float cluster.
  • Float mid-shift or between units as needed, with advance notice of assignments.

Required Qualifications

Experience

  • Minimum 3 years of nursing experience in all of the following areas (can be concurrent):
    • Emergency Room (ER)
    • Intensive Care Unit (ICU) (experience must be within the last 2 years)
    • Progressive Care Unit (PCU)
    • Medical-Surgical (Med Surg)
    • Behavioral Health/Psych (Adult Acute, Youth Acute, Addiction Recovery)
  • Experience with cardiac drips.
  • Experience with non-invasive ventilation.

Licenses & Certifications

  • Registered Nurse (RN) license in Idaho or compact state.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) - American Heart Association (AHA).
  • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) - AHA.
  • NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS).
  • Restraint Certification (Restraint C) - can be completed during orientation.
  • MOAB 8-hour class (covered during onboarding).
  • Department of Health & Welfare Background Fingerprinting (required due to Behavioral Health floating).

Education

  • Graduate of a nationally accredited nursing program (BSN highly preferred).

Schedule & Work Environment

  • 12-hour shifts: 0700-1930 or 1900-0730.
  • Schedule varies based on unit needs.
  • Every other weekend required.
  • Float assignments communicated 2 hours prior to shift start; may float mid-shift if necessary.
  • Typical units served have 21-35 beds.

Nurse-to-Patient Ratios

  • ICU: 1:1-2
  • Med/Surg & ED boarded Med/Surg: 1:5-6
  • PCU: 1:3-4
  • Behavioral Health (Adult/Youth Acute, Addiction Recovery): 1:5-6 (day), 1:10 (overnight)

Dress Code

  • Navy blue scrubs.

Orientation & Training

  • Restraint C certification (during orientation).
  • MOAB 8-hour class (during orientation).
  • Boundaries 1-hour module (during orientation).
  • Training on KBH/YA Restraint board and lifts provided during onboarding.

Additional Notes

  • Must be competent to meet age-specific needs of assigned units.
  • Regular and predictable attendance is essential.
  • Ability and willingness to float across multiple units is required.
