Job Opportunity: Hospice Registered Nurse

Location: Northampton, Massachusetts
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Details

  • Specialty: Hospice Registered Nurse (CMRN Hospice)
  • Schedule: Day shift, 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM (5 days a week, 8 hours per day)
  • Guaranteed Hours: 40 hours per week
  • Average Patient Load: 5-7 patients per day (to confirm during interview)
  • Types of Cases: Geriatric, end-of-life care
  • Territory: Up to a 60-mile radius from the office/hub
  • Dress Code: Scrubs of any color; jeans are not allowed
  • Technology Provided: iPad provided; cell phone use not allowed
  • Mileage: Reimbursed at IRS standard rate
  • On-call: Required (details to be discussed during interview)
  • Flexibility: Traveler expected to be flexible with territory
  • Locals: Accepted at travel rate
  • First Time Travelers: Not accepted

Required Qualifications

  • Valid RN license in Massachusetts
  • Minimum 1 year of hospice experience within the last year
  • BLS certification issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
  • Experience with Homecare Homebase (HCHB)

Compliance and Background Requirements

  • Background checks must be completed within 90 days of start and updated annually, including but not limited to:
    • SSN Trace
    • County searches for last 7 years of residence/work/school
    • FACIS Level 1
    • Nationwide Sex Offender Registry
    • Motor Vehicle Records (MVR)
    • Education and Work History Verification
    • State-specific searches as applicable (e.g., Kentucky, Virginia, Indiana, New Hampshire, South Carolina)
  • Fingerprinting may be required depending on state placement (e.g., Connecticut, Ohio) and must be current within 12 months
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within 90 days of start
  • Education verification of highest degree related to profession required
  • Signed Orientation Safety Manual Acknowledgement (updated annually)
  • NURSYS verification for RN license within 90 days of start
  • Competency exams including medication/pharmacology as applicable

Health and Immunization Requirements

  • Physical exam within the last 12 months (not required annually)
  • Negative TB test (PPD, Q Gold, or TSpot) within 1 year of start; chest x-ray within 5 years if positive PPD
  • Annual TB questionnaire required
  • Immunizations or proof of immunity for:
    • Measles (Rubeola)
    • Mumps
    • Rubella
    • Hepatitis B
    • Varicella
  • Flu seasonal vaccination or facility-specific declination form required during flu season (Aug-Nov)
  • COVID vaccination or facility-specific declination required
  • 9-panel drug screen within 12 months of start (instant acceptable)

Additional Requirements

  • Two professional references within 2 years of start (travel, allied, per diem acute care)
  • Full 7 years of work history documented with no gaps, including city and state of employment
  • Annual skills checklist required
  • Proof of current auto insurance required if job responsibilities include driving

Notes

  • This position does not accept first-time travel nurses.
  • Flexibility with travel territory and on-call duties is expected.
  • Timely and accurate documentation is critical.
  • Scrubs are required attire; no jeans allowed.
  • Cell phone use is prohibited during work hours; iPad provided for documentation.
