Registered Nurse – Emergency Room (Night Shift)

Location: Bethpage, New York
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Job Details

• Position to backfill a canceled PM ER opening.
• Night shift schedule: 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7:00 PM – 7:30 AM).
• Total hours per week: 36.

Required Qualifications

• Valid RN license in New York.
• Minimum 1 year of Emergency Department (ED) experience within the last year.
• Certifications issued by the American Heart Association:

  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
  • BLS (Basic Life Support)
  • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)
• NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification.
• Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).

Compliance & Background Checks

• 7-year background check required within 30 days of start, updated annually. Must include:

  • Social Security Trace
  • County Search
  • National Sex Offender Registry (including updates effective 6/24/24)
  • National Criminal Check
  • FACIS Level 3
  • OFAC (updated 6/24/24)
  • OMIG (NY Medicaid exclusions list)
  • OIG and SAM checks
• EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks must be run within 30 days prior to start.
• New York State Medicaid Exclusion List (OMIG) check required within 30 days prior to start and updated annually.

Health & Safety Requirements

• Facility-specific physical exam form must be completed by a physician within 30 days prior to start; cannot be done onsite.
• Fit test for N95 mask (Halyard Fluidshield or 3M 1860) required within 12 months prior to start, updated annually.
• Negative TB test (QGold, TSpot, or PPD) within 1 year of start; if positive, clear chest x-ray within past 12 months and completed site questionnaire required.
• Immunizations/vaccinations required with proof of immunity or vaccination for:

  • Rubeola (Measles)
  • Mumps
  • Rubella
  • Varicella
  • Hepatitis B (antibody and antigen results required; 3-series alone not sufficient)
• Seasonal flu vaccination required October 1 – April 30; declinations allowed for religious or medical reasons on a case-by-case basis.
• COVID vaccine series preferred but not mandatory.
• Standard 9-panel drug screen required within 30 days prior to start, updated annually; rapid drug tests not accepted.

Competencies

• Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam: minimum score 80%.

Documentation

• Valid driver’s license or state ID with current address and clear photo.
• Diploma or transcript acceptable for education verification.
• Skills checklist current within the last year and applicable to the position.
• Employment application covering 7 years with explanations for any gaps.
• Two clinical references as noted above.
• Facility-specific Acceptable Use Policy (AUP) form must be reviewed and signed prior to start.

Additional Notes

• Prior travel experience is not explicitly required for this position.
• NIH Stroke Certification and other specialty certifications may be required for other units but are not specified as mandatory for this ER role.
