Registered Nurse – Stepdown Unit (Travel/Contract)
Location: Cleveland, Ohio
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Overview
- Assignment on Stepdown unit with potential to float to similar patient care units including Emergency Department.
- Rotating shifts: 3 shifts of 12 hours each (Day: 7:00 AM – 7:30 PM / Night: 7:00 PM – 7:30 AM). Shift rotation may be required to meet operational needs.
- Must work at least every other holiday.
Required Experience
- Minimum 18 months combined permanent experience as a Registered Nurse.
- At least 18 months recent Stepdown or Progressive Care Unit (PCU) experience; travel experience accepted.
- PCU/Progressive care experience preferred but not mandatory.
Required Licenses & Certifications
- Valid Ohio RN license or compact state RN license in hand.
- Current BLS (Basic Life Support) certification (AHA or American Red Cross).
- Current ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) certification (AHA or American Red Cross).
- NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification required.
Orientation & Testing Requirements
- Must pass ECG rhythm recognition test and SafeMedicate medication administration exam during orientation.
- Medication exam requires a 90% passing score; ECG interpretation requires 80%.
- Candidates unsuccessful on first attempt will receive remediation and retake opportunities.
Background & Compliance Requirements
- Government-issued photo ID required and must be carried on assignment.
- Comprehensive background check including 7-year FCRA-compliant search, education verification, and fingerprinting (FBI and BCI) required prior to start and updated annually.
- Fingerprinting must be completed within 48 hours of contract signing and results must be on file before contract extension.
- Monthly EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required.
Health & Immunization Requirements
- Physical exam within 1 year of start confirming ability to perform essential job functions.
- Fit mask test (3M N95 1860 or 1870+) within 12 months, updated annually.
- Required immunizations/vaccinations with official documentation:
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (every 10 years)
- Negative TB test (2-step PPD, QGold, or TSPOT) within 12 months or chest X-ray if past positive.
- Measles, Mumps, Rubella (2 MMR vaccines or positive titers).
- Hepatitis B (titer, series, or declination with approved exemption).
- Varicella (2 vaccines or positive titer).
- Seasonal flu vaccination (required annually; no declinations accepted).
- Drug screening: Standard 10-panel drug screen within 12 months, updated annually (instant tests not accepted).
- Snellen eye exam within 1 year of start.
Documentation & History
- Employment application with at least 3 years prior work history including 2 years clinical acute care practice in a similar area.
- Two professional references from within 1 year of start date (manager, supervisor, charge nurse, or director).
- Completion of facility-specific online training modules prior to start (must be done on a computer using Google Chrome).
- Photo for badge may be required.
Additional Notes
- Candidates must be prepared to complete all onboarding modules and pass required competency exams before clearance to start.
- Candidates with a break in employment longer than 6 months at this facility may need to repeat orientation and modules.
- Candidates must comply with all facility-specific policies and procedures.
Requirements/Qualifications
- Valid RN license in Ohio
- Minimum 1.5 years of Stepdown nursing experience
- Stepdown experience within the last year
- Current ACLS certification
- Current BLS certification issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
- NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
