Job Opportunity: PCU Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract)
Location: Indianapolis, Indiana
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Position Overview
- Role: Progressive Care Unit (PCU) Registered Nurse
- Shift: Day shift, 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7:00 AM – 7:30 PM)
- Hours per week: 36
- Staffing ratio: 1 nurse to 4 patients
- Unit focus: Cardiovascular diagnoses including congestive heart failure, post-myocardial infarction, pulmonary hypertension, cardiac arrhythmias, COPD, congenital heart defects, infective endocarditis, post-cath lab care, pre-LVAD placement, heart/lung transplant, and pre-valve replacement care
- Facility type: Teaching hospital with student precepting and shadowing requirements
Required Qualifications
- Valid RN license in Indiana
- Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
- Minimum 2 years of Progressive Care Unit (PCU) experience, specifically in Cardiac PCU, with at least some experience within the last year
- Experience working with Level 1 Trauma patients
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association
- Experience with post cath lab care and sheath pulls
Compliance & Documentation Requirements
- Valid Driver’s License or Passport (clear copy)
- Background checks including 7-year history, SSN trace, county/state/national checks, and education verification
- Negative 10-panel drug screen within 12 months (including amphetamines, marijuana, cocaine, opiates, PCP)
- Physical exam within 12 months of start date
- Fit mask test within 12 months (approved respirators only)
- Immunizations and titers required:
- Rubeola (Measles): Positive titer or 2 vaccines required
- Mumps: Positive titer or 2 vaccines required
- Rubella: Positive titer or 2 vaccines required
- Varicella: Positive titer or 2 vaccines required (history not accepted)
- Hepatitis B series, titer, or signed declination required
- Tuberculosis test (PPD, QuantiFERON-TB Gold, or T-SPOT) within 1 year
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap preferred but not required
- Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required during flu season (9/30 - 3/31)
- Competency exams including medication/pharmacology and unit-specific competency required
- Minimum of 2 professional references from recent employment with supervisory titles
- Current employment application with full work history and explanations for gaps over 30 days
Additional Notes
- IU Health will not allow Indiana RNs to work at their facilities effective 11/30/2024, except for Perioperative/OR, Allied, and Ambulatory RN travelers (including Endoscopy, IR RN, PACU, Cath Lab RN, SDS) who are exempt from this rule
- Candidates must agree to the possibility of precepting students or being assigned students to shadow during the assignment
- On-site fit testing and PAPR approvals have specific facility restrictions and requirements
- Completion of facility-specific orientation packets and compliance checklists is mandatory and time-sensitive
This opportunity is ideal for experienced PCU RNs with trauma experience who are flexible, willing to float, and comfortable working in a teaching hospital environment with cardiovascular patient populations.
