ICU Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Position
Location: Chicago, Illinois
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Details
- Shift: Day shift, 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7:00 AM – 7:30 PM)
- Guaranteed Hours: 36 hours per week
- Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend (2 weekends per month)
- Call Requirements: None
- Request Time Off (RTO): Maximum 5 days total; no more than 2 consecutive days; no RTO on holidays, weekends, or the day before/after a holiday
- Floating: Mandatory float facility; ICU RNs will float between Burn ICU, CCU, Medical ICU, SICU, Neuro ICU, and possibly Medical-Surgical units as needed
- Orientation: First week includes orientation and precepting on day shift
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse license in Illinois
- Minimum 2 years of recent ICU (Intensive Care Unit) experience, including experience within the last year
- Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
- BLS (Basic Life Support) issued by the American Heart Association
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
- NIH Stroke Scale Certification (NIHSS)

Compliance and Documentation Requirements
Background Checks
- Background check within 12 months covering all locations lived/worked/schooled in past 7 years, updated annually
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within 30 days of start
- Illinois-specific Health Care Worker Registry Search required for aides and nursing assistants only (not RNs)
- International background check if candidate lived/worked internationally in past 7 years
Certifications and Competencies
- Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam (required within 12 months prior to start for contracts starting on/after 4/14/24)
- Color Blind Testing (required within 12 months prior to start for contracts starting on/after 1/16/24)
- Competency Exam (required within 12 months prior to start for contracts starting on/after 4/14/24)
Health Requirements
- Physical exam within 12 months prior to start, signed by PA, NP, DO, or MD
- Fit mask test (N95 or equivalent) within 1 year prior to start, updated annually; medical or religious exemptions require approval for onsite PAPR use
- Tdap vaccine within 10 years or signed declination within 12 months prior to start
- Negative TB test (QGold or TSPOT) within 12 months prior to start, updated annually; PPDs not accepted after 12/15/2025
- TB questionnaire if history of positive TB, updated annually
- Immunizations:
- Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella: 2 MMR vaccines or positive titer; low titer requires booster
- Hepatitis B series, titer, or signed declination within 1 year prior to start
- Varicella: 2 vaccines or positive titer; low titer requires booster
- Negative 9-panel drug screen within 90 days of start, initiated within 48 hours of signed contract; marijuana testing not required
- Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required during flu season (10/01 – 5/4); declinations not accepted by facility
Facility-Specific Documents
- Completion of facility-required forms including Rules of Behavior and PromisePoint EMR training modules prior to start (approx. 2 hours of computer-based training with passing grades required)
- Facility-specific Pyxis form required for RNs at select locations
Additional Notes
- References are not required by the facility but must follow state requirements for RNs

- Annual skills checklist required
